Modelling and monitoring nonlinear acoustic phenomena in high-intensity focused ultrasound therapy

open access: yes, 2017
High intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) provides a wide range of noninvasive therapies ranging from drug delivery to the destruction of kidney stones. In particular, thermal ablation by HIFU presents an effective noninvasive method for the treatment ...

Experimental evaluation of an integrated focused ultrasound and electroencephalography approach for developing activation-informed neuroimaging

open access: yesNeuroImage
: We experimentally evaluated the possibility of using an integrated focused ultrasound (FUS) - electroencephalography (EEG) approach to develop activation-informed neuroimaging for human functional brain mapping, enhancing the power of conventional ...

Artificial Intelligence in Systemic Sclerosis: Clinical Applications, Challenges, and Future Directions

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, EarlyView.
Systemic sclerosis (SSc) is a rare autoimmune disease defined by immune dysregulation, vasculopathy, and progressive fibrosis of the skin and internal organs. Despite advances in care, major complications such as interstitial lung disease (ILD) and myocardial involvement remain the leading causes of morbidity and mortality.

The possible use of combined electrical impedance and ultrasound velocity measurements for the non-invasive measurement of temperature during mild hyperthermia [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
This paper explores the possibility of using combined measurements of electrical impedance and changes in ultrasound time of flight for determining deep body temperature during mild hyperthermia. Simultaneous electrical impedance spectra (1 kHz–1024 kHz)

Health Care Use Among Patients Presenting to Emergency Department for Gout Flares in Ontario, Canada: A Population‐Based Health Systems Analysis

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, EarlyView.
Objective We characterized emergency department (ED) gout visits and identified patient characteristics and health services patterns contributing to ED presentations. Methods We conducted a population‐based study of ED gout visits in Ontario, Canada, between 2014 and 2023.

Transcutaneous Ablation of Lung Tissue in a Porcine Model Using Magnetic-Resonance-Guided Focused Ultrasound (MRgFUS)

open access: yesTomography
Focused ultrasound (FUS) is a minimally invasive treatment that utilizes high-energy ultrasound waves to thermally ablate tissue. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) guidance may be combined with FUS (MRgFUS) to increase its accuracy and has been proposed ...

NeuroFUS | Neuromodulation by Focused Ultrasound

open access: yes, 2019
Ultrasound (US) is most widely recognized in medicine for its use in imaging as a diagnostic tool. Over the past decade, US has become increasingly appreciated for its ability to non-invasively modulate cellular activity including neuronal activity.

Anti-foci for focused ultrasound

open access: yesInternational Journal of Hyperthermia, 2009
An anti-focus is defined as the point where the pressure amplitude is zero. As an active protection means in focused ultrasound, the anti-focus was researched through simulations. A 513 element, 1 MHz, 15 cm focal depth, spherical shape transducer with a central hold was used for the simulation.

Experimental Evaluation of 100Cr6 Steel Microindented Surfaces Under Lubricated Nonconformal Point Contacts

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The tribological behavior of 100Cr6 steel spheres textured via Vickers microindentation is evaluated under lubricated sliding by varying both dimple size and density. Fine and dense textures significantly reduce friction across all lubrication regimes, while large dimples increase it.
