Focusing and the Holographic Hypothesis [PDF]
The ``screen mapping" introduced by Susskind to implement 't Hooft's holographic hypothesis is studied. For a single screen time, there are an infinite number of images of a black hole event horizon, almost all of which have smaller area on the screen ...

Analytic descriptions of parabolic X-ray mirrors
On X-ray beamlines and telescopes, glancing-incidence mirrors with parabolic profiles are used to collimate, focus, and collect light. Here, analytic descriptions for paraboloidal, plane-parabolic, and parabolic cylindrical mirrors in several congruent ...

Focusing and Wavefront Splitting of an Extreme Ultraviolet Laser with a Tubular Optical Element
A capillary discharge extreme ultraviolet laser is focused and wavefront split at 46.9 nm by a tubular optical element. The reflectivity at 46.9 nm is both simulated and measured to be higher than 90% with a slight optical aberration.

Phase gratings for plasmon focusing [PDF]
We report gratings structures realized for the creation of focused plasmons through noncollinear phasematching. The gratings are created on gold by focused ion beam milling and the plasmons were measured using phase sensitive photon scanning tunneling ...

Focusing on the Focusing Illusion... [PDF]
The paper presents evidence that validate the focusing illusion. Specifically, the forecasted impact of a basketball championship on students’ subjective well-being was exaggerated because of their intense focus on the event. However, the self-reported states of being for life domains not closely associated with the focal event remained stable ...
