Correction of iron deficiency in peas by foliar sprays

A severe iron deficiency in peas grown on grey to black clay loam soil overlying limestone (rendzina) was successfully ameliorated by foliar application of ferrous sulphate. Two applications, three weeks apart, increased the fresh weight of peas harvested by more than 100 per cent (P < 0.001).

The insecticides were applied with a two-row, four nozzle (TeeJet AI 80015) portable boom CO2-powered sprayer at 50 lb/in2 in 50 gal of water per acre on 9 June.

Aphid treatments were applied 11 July with a truck mounted sprayer with hose and handgun that applied 75 gal/acre at 100 lb/in2 .
