On Tight Tree‐Complete Hypergraph Ramsey Numbers

open access: yesJournal of Graph Theory, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Chvátal showed that for any tree T $T$ with k $k$ edges, the Ramsey number R ( T , n ) = k ( n − 1 ) + 1 $R(T,n)=k(n-1)+1$. For r = 3 $r=3$ or 4, we show that, if T $T$ is an r $r$‐uniform nontrivial tight tree, then the hypergraph Ramsey number R ( T , n ) = Θ ( n r − 1 ) $R(T,n)={\rm{\Theta }}({n}^{r-1})$.

Folklore and the aurora

open access: yesEos, Transactions American Geophysical Union, 1975
The Aurora Borealis is a natural phenomenon of striking beauty and overwhelming presence in certain parts of the world. It is therefore natural to ask what effect these northern lights have had on the native cultures in the auroral zones. Since the sun, moon, and stars all have a place in the mythology of most primitive cultures, it is not surprising ...

On the Hardness of Switching to a Small Number of Edges

open access: yesJournal of Graph Theory, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Seidel's switching is a graph operation which makes a given vertex adjacent to precisely those vertices to which it was non‐adjacent before, while keeping the rest of the graph unchanged. Two graphs are called switching‐equivalent if one can be made isomorphic to the other one by a sequence of switches. Jelínková et al. [DMTCS 13, no. 2, 2011]

Stable Cuts, NAC‐Colourings and Flexible Realisations of Graphs

open access: yesJournal of Graph Theory, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT A (2‐dimensional) realisation of a graph G $G$ is a pair ( G , p ) $(G,p)$, where p $p$ maps the vertices of G $G$ to R 2 ${{\mathbb{R}}}^{2}$. A realisation is flexible if it can be continuously deformed while keeping the edge lengths fixed, and rigid otherwise.
