Reproduction in Domestic Animals, 2008
ContentsThe mare provides a unique experimental model for studying follicle development in monovular species. Development of antral follicles in horses is characterized by the periodic growth of follicular waves which often involve the selection of a single dominant follicle.

Activation of follicle development: the primordial follicle
Theriogenology, 2001Investigations of primordial follicle formation and growth are fundamental to our understanding of female gamete production. In all mammalian females the full complement of oocytes is established during fetal development. This store of primordial follicles is not renewable and serves the entire reproductive life span of the adult.

Melatonin and the hair follicle
Journal of Pineal Research, 2007Abstract:âMelatonin, the chief secretory product of the pineal gland, has long been known to modulate hair growth, pigmentation and/or molting in many species, presumably as a key neuroendocrine regulator that couples coat phenotype and function to photoperiodâdependent environmental and reproductive changes.

Fertility and Sterility, 1986
Four patients who had no oocytes retrieved during an IVF cycle were studied in an attempt to identify predictors of such an occurrence and suggestions for its cause. All 30 follicles aspirated in five cycles in these four women yielded no oocytes. One patient had two cycles that produced no eggs. The empty follicle syndrome may represent a new syndrome

Norepinephrine in Graafian Follicles Is Depleted by Follicle-Stimulating Hormone*
Endocrinology, 1982The purpose of the present study was to measure norepinephrine (NE) in Graafian follicles and correlate changes in its concentration with circulating gonadotropins secreted endogenously or administered exogenously. Graafian follicles were removed from the ovaries of adult cycling rats. The follicles were pooled in groups of 10-13, and NE was determined

Follicle-Stimulating Hormone and Advanced Follicle Development in the Human
Archives of Medical Research, 2001The great majority of human oocytes is destined to undergo atresia. Only follicles able to respond to stimulation by follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) will enter the final stage of development and ovulate. While the role of FSH in early follicle development is unclear, late follicular development is FSH-dependent.
