The ovarian follicle and fertility
The Journal of Steroid Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, 1991The precise roles of follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) and luteinizing hormone (LH) in the control of preovulatory follicle growth has been re-examined. Suppression of both pulsatile LH secretion and FSH or specific suppression of FSH results in an inhibition of preovulatory follicle growth beyond 2.5 mm dia.

Environment of the Anagen Follicle
2018Hair follicles are part of the skin. Almost universally, follicles are described as an epithelium-derived tubular down growth into the skin's dermis. Because follicles are complex structures, especially when in anagen phase and configured to actively grow fibres, it is easy to forget that they are part of a crowded environment within the skin.

Activation of Primordial Follicles
2002The activation of primordial follicles appears to be regulated by a myriad of factors, and the current evidence suggests that whether an individual follicle stays in the resting pool or initiates growth may depend on the balance of stimulatory and inhibitory factors impinging on the follicle at a particular point in time.

The hair follicle, or more correctly the pilo-sebaceous follicle, is an invagination of the epidermis. The floor, which is formed by a papilla gives insertion to the hair, which is a product of the cells of this papilla. A lateral diverticulum, the sebaceous gland (a compound racemose gland) secretes a fatty substance called sebum.
