1984The primordial follicle is an oocyte whose nucleus is arrested in the diplotene stage of meiotic prophase, following the first maturation division which begins in prenatal life. Conversion of oogonia to oocytes and incorporation of these into primordial follicles are not completed until 6 months postnatally.
