Mechanisms of parasite‐mediated disruption of brain vessels

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Parasites can affect the blood vessels of the brain, often causing serious neurological problems. This review explains how different parasites interact with and disrupt these vessels, what this means for brain health, and why these processes matter. Understanding these mechanisms may help us develop better ways to prevent or treat brain infections in ...

Effect of supply and demand of phloem sugar on the proportion of brachypterous forms of the rice pest Nilaparvata lugens Stål (Hemiptera: Delphacidae) [PDF]

open access: yesSongklanakarin Journal of Science and Technology (SJST)
The sugar supplied by rice and the demand by N. lugens can affect the proportion of brachypterous forms in a population. Experiments were conducted to estimate the food ingestion by N.

Time after time – circadian clocks through the lens of oscillator theory

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Oscillator theory bridges physics and circadian biology. Damped oscillators require external drivers, while limit cycles emerge from delayed feedback and nonlinearities. Coupling enables tissue‐level coherence, and entrainment aligns internal clocks with environmental cues.

Demand for food products in Finland: A demand system approach

open access: yesAgricultural and Food Science, 1994
The study was concerned with the estimation of food-demand parameters in a system context. The patterns of food consumption in Finland were presented over the period 1950-1991, and a complete demand system of food expenditures was estimated.

An upstream open reading frame regulates expression of the mitochondrial protein Slm35 and mitophagy flux

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals how the mitochondrial protein Slm35 is regulated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The authors identify stress‐responsive DNA elements and two upstream open reading frames (uORFs) in the 5′ untranslated region of SLM35. One uORF restricts translation, and its mutation increases Slm35 protein levels and mitophagy.

The Food Stamp Benefit Formula: Implications for Empirical Research on Food Demand

open access: yesJournal of Agricultural and Resource Economics, 2001
To understand how food stamps affect food spending, nonexperimental research typically requires some source of independent variation in food stamp benefits.

PICALM::MLLT10 translocated leukemia

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This comprehensive review of PICALM::MLLT10 translocated acute leukemia provides an in‐depth review of the structure and function of CALM, AF10, and the fusion oncoprotein (1). The multifaceted molecular mechanisms of oncogenesis, including nucleocytoplasmic shuttling (2), epigenetic modifications (3), and disruption of endocytosis (4), are then ...

Food demand estimation from consumption and expenditure data: Meat demand in Nigeria

open access: yesAgricultural and Resource Economics Review
Hidden consumption is a potential problem when consumers’ expenditure data from household surveys are used in demand analyses. A solution is to collect and use actual consumption data.

Food demand characteristics in Ghana: An application of the quadratic almost ideal demand systems

open access: yesScientific African, 2020
In typical developing countries, a one-size-fits-all policies often tend to hurt the poor and vulnerable. Specifically, in food demand studies different social groupings have characteristically heterogeneous demand functions which may require unique ...
