The impact of deprivation and neighbourhood food environments on home food environments, parental feeding practices, child eating behaviours, food preferences and BMI: The Family Food Experience Study-London

open access: yesInternational Journal of Behavioral Nutrition and Physical Activity
Background Childhood obesity inequalities in England persist despite targeted interventions focused on promoting healthy diets and food environments.

RESILIENCE OF THE SHORTNOSE GUITARFISH (Zapteryx brevirostris): COMPLETE COMPENSATORY GAIN, HEMATOLOGY AND HISTOPATHOLOGY

open access: yesBoletim do Instituto de Pesca, 2019
Compensatory gain has been used to evaluate the plasticity of species, in adverse situations such as food deprivation. The aim of the present study was to identify the type of compensatory gain achieved by the shortnose guitarfish (Zapteryx brevirostris)

CCDC80 suppresses high‐grade serous ovarian cancer migration via negative regulation of B7‐H3

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
PAX8 is a lineage‐specific master regulator of transcription in high‐grade serous ovarian cancer (HGSC) progression. We show for the first time that PAX8 facilitates proliferation and metastasis by repressing the cell autonomous tumor suppressor CCDC80 and inducing B7‐H3 expression.

Leptin inhibits food-deprivation-induced increases in food intake and food hoarding

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Physiology-Regulatory, Integrative and Comparative Physiology, 2008
Food deprivation stimulates foraging and hoarding and to a much lesser extent, food intake in Siberian hamsters. Leptin, the anorexigenic hormone secreted primarily from adipocytes, may act in the periphery, the brain, or both to inhibit these ingestive behaviors.

Interaction of HS1BP3 with cortactin modulates TKS5 localisation, cell secretion and cancer malignancy

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Here, we demonstrate that HS1BP3 interacts with Cortactin through a proline‐rich region (PRR3.1) and show that this interaction, and HS1BP3 itself, promote cancer cell proliferation and invasion. Inhibition of this interaction leads to build‐up of TKS5 in multivesicular endosomes and altered secretion of CD63 and CD9, providing an explanation for the ...

Neighborhood deprivation, built environment, and overweight in adolescents in the city of Oslo

open access: yesBMC Public Health, 2023
Background Even though the social and built environment characteristics of neighborhoods have been studied as potential determinants of social inequalities in obesity among adults, fewer studies have focused on children.

A cross sectional study investigating the association between exposure to food outlets and childhood obesity in Leeds, UK. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Background: Current UK policy in relation to the influence of the ‘food environment’ on childhood obesity appears to be driven largely on assumptions or speculations because empirical evidence is lacking and findings from studies are inconsistent.

dUTPase is essential in zebrafish development and possesses several single‐nucleotide variants with pronounced structural and functional consequences

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
dUTPases are involved in balancing the appropriate nucleotide pools. We showed that dUTPase is essential for normal development in zebrafish. The different zebrafish genomes contain several single‐nucleotide variations (SNPs) of the dut gene. One of the dUTPase variants displayed drastically lower protein stability and catalytic efficiency as compared ...

Seasonal variation and food deprivation in common vampire bats (Chiroptera: Phyllostomidae)

open access: yesBrazilian Journal of Biology
The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of seasonal variation and fasting on fat reserves of the common vampire bat Desmodus rotundus. Plasma free fatty acids (FFA), along with lipid content of the liver and muscles, and fatty acids from the

Retailers and deprivation: an exploratory study [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Relationships between retailing and socio-economic deprivation have attracted academic and policy interest, notably focusing on health and diet (including 'food deserts') and retail-led regeneration.
