Multifunctional Ultra‐Bright Plasmonic Gold@Fluorescence Nanoprobe for Biomedical Applications

open access: yesAggregate
Metal‐enhanced fluorescence (MEF) represents a captivating phenomenon that transpires when fluorophores are situated in close vicinity to the surface of metallic nanostructures, leading to a nuanced augmentation of their fluorescent characteristics ...

Evolutionarily divergent DUF4465 domains have a common vitamin B12‐binding function

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
We show that DUF4465 family proteins, widespread across bacteria from gut microbiomes, hydrothermal vents, and soil, share a common vitamin B12‐binding function. These augmented β‐jellyroll proteins bind vitamin B12 via extended loops. Our findings establish sequence‐diverse DUF4465 proteins as a widespread class of B12‐binding proteins, highlighting ...

Effect of particle size of Eucommia ulmoides leaf micro-powder on dough characteristics and biscuit quality of shortbread biscuits

open access: yesFood Chemistry: X
This study systematically investigated the effects of particle sizes of Eucommia ulmoides leaf micro-powder (EULM) on shortbread biscuit quality. Results showed that as particle size decreased, dough ΔE value increased, biscuit browning degree reduced ...

HOUSEHOLD FOOD SECURITY IN THE UNITED STATES, 2001 [PDF]

open access: yes
Eighty-nine percent of American households were food secure throughout the entire year 2001. The rest were food insecure at least some time during the year, meaning they did not always have access to enough food for active, healthy lives for all ...

Intercompartmental communication in senescence

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Senescent cells experience structural changes in the plasma membrane, endoplasmic reticulum, mitochondria, lysosomes, nucleus, and cytoskeleton. These alterations disrupt crosstalk among cellular compartments, impairing vesicular trafficking, contact sites, and molecular flow.

Household Food Security in the United States, 2004 [PDF]

open access: yes
Eighty-eight percent of American households were food secure throughout the entire year in 2004, meaning that they had access, at all times, to enough food for an active, healthy life for all household members. The remaining households were food insecure

Pharmacological inhibition of the PERK pathway modulates hepatocellular carcinoma growth and immune signaling

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Pharmacological inhibition of PERK in a DEN‐induced mouse model of liver cancer does not reduce tumor burden but alters cellular stress signaling. Despite blocking PERK activity, downstream stress responses, including CHOP expression, remain active, suggesting compensatory mechanisms within the unfolded protein response that may influence tumor ...

Changes in feeding biology of Nile tilapia, Oreochromis niloticus (L.), after invasion of water hyacinth, Eichhornia crassipes (Mart.) Solms, in Lake Victoria, Kenya [PDF]

open access: yes, 1999
Oreochrimis niloticus (L.) was introduced to Lake victoria in the 1950s. It remained relatively uncommon in catches until 1965, when the numbers began to increase dramatically.

Early‐life high‐fat diet exposure increases Achilles tendon stiffness and induces transcriptomic alterations

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Early‐life exposure to a high‐fat diet altered intact Achilles tendons in rat offspring, making them thinner, stiffer, and molecularly distinct even without injury. These findings suggest that developmental high‐fat diet exposure may impair tendon quality and increase susceptibility to mechanical overload or tendon injury later in life.

Carvacrol, citral, eugenol and cinnamaldehyde casein based edible nanoemulsions as novel sustainable active coatings for fresh pork tenderloin meat preservation

open access: yesFrontiers in Food Science and Technology
Introduction: Nowadays, the bioeconomy and sustainability trends drive the food sector to replace chemical preservatives with bioactive compounds recovered from biomass such as essential oils (EOs) and their derivatives.
