Delivery of DNA‐encoded vaccines and proteins in mice using cutaneous suction‐mediated transfection

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Cutaneous suction‐mediated transfection in mice for delivery of DNA‐encoded vaccines and proteins. A critical limitation of DNA vaccines and other therapeutics is transfection in vivo to produce the encoded antigens or therapeutic proteins. Cutaneous suction‐based methods have demonstrated effectiveness in many animal models and have been successfully ...

Factors Affecting Food Prices in D-8 Group Countries

open access: yesبرنامه‌ریزی و بودجه
Food prices play a vital role in assessing food access. Rising food prices, along with declining real income and purchasing power, can increase household vulnerability, especially in developing nations.

Identification of (20R)‐protopanaxadiol from Panax ginseng as a novel anti‐SARS‐CoV‐2 compound

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
We established a noninfectious BAC‐based SARS‐CoV‐2 replicon that enables antiviral screening under BSL‐2 conditions. Using this platform, we screened 373 food‐derived compounds and identified (20R)‐protopanaxadiol from Panax ginseng as a novel inhibitor of SARS‐CoV‐2 RNA replication, highlighting the value of safe replicon systems for antiviral ...

Global Food Price Shock and the Poor in Egypt and Ukraine [PDF]

open access: yes
The global food price shock of 2006-2008 has particularly affected poorer strata of populations in several developing countries. In Egypt and some other countries it has put food subsidy schemes to the test.

From patient advocacy to patient‐driven research: Building active partnerships beginning at the bench to reach the bedside

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Research is strongest when conducted alongside patients, not just about them. Patient research organizations help integrate patient perspectives into research priorities, study design, and scientific meetings, leading to meaningful patient outcomes and development of relevant therapies.

GelMA‐based 3D spheroids recapitulate transcriptomic and functional hallmarks of myeloid sarcoma

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
GelMA 5% hydrogels support the formation of myeloid leukemia spheroids that recapitulate MS‐specific features, including G1 arrest, apoptosis, and ECM‐driven transcriptomic reprogramming. The 3D model mimicked soft‐tissue‐like stiffness and oxygen conditions, and transcriptomic convergence with primary MS samples confirmed its utility as a preclinical ...

BCG vaccination potentiates oxidative phosphorylation in neonatal myeloid‐derived suppressor cells

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
BCG vaccination enhances oxidative phosphorylation in neonatal MDSCs, impairing their immunosuppressive function. It upregulates electron transport chain genes and mitochondrial activity, increasing ATP and oxygen consumption. Pharmacological OXPHOS inhibition partially restores suppressive capacity, confirming causality.

Soft commodity funds, food price volatility, speculation and public Perception. Why soft commodities are a special asset class. [PDF]

open access: yes
This paper reviews evidence on food price volatility, soft commodity speculation and the public perception of these practices, at least from a Belgian perspective.

Selective elimination of quiescent cancer cells by dequalinium chloride via ROS‐mediated ferroptosis

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Dequalinium chloride (DQ) selectively eliminates quiescent cancer cells (QCCs) by amplifying mitochondrial ROS. QCCs exhibit elevated basal ROS and limited redox‐buffering capacity, making them vulnerable to further ROS increases. DQ‐induced ROS exceeds the tolerance threshold, triggering lipid peroxidation and ferroptosis, whereas proliferating cells ...
