Real time analysis of epidemic data [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2019
Infectious diseases have severe health and economic consequences for society. It is important in controlling the spread of an emerging infectious disease to be able to both estimate the parameters of the underlying model and identify those individuals most at risk of infection in a timely manner.

Description of the cattle and small ruminants trade network in Senegal and implication for the surveillance of animal diseases [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2023
Livestock mobility, particularly that of small and large ruminants, is one of the main pillars of production and trade in West Africa: livestock is moved around in search of better grazing or sold in markets for domestic consumption and for festival-related activities.

Eradication of foot-and-mouth disease: a foot in mouth proposition [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Biosciences, 2001
Foot-and-mouth disease (FMD) is the most contagious disease of cloven-hoofed animals. The disease is highly infectious and is characterized by rapid transmission, a sequel to the rather explosive growth cycle of the causative virus, FMDV (an aphthovirus; Picornaviridae).

Early metastasis is characterized by Gr1+ cell dysregulation and is inhibited by immunomodulatory nanoparticles

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Breast cancer metastasis is associated with myeloid cell dysregulation and the lung‐specific accumulation of tumor‐supportive Gr1+ cells. Gr1+ cells support metastasis, in part, through a CHI3L1‐mediated mechanism, which can be targeted and inhibited with cargo‐free, polymeric nanoparticles.

Spatio-temporal Dynamics of Foot-and-Mouth Disease Virus in South America [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2015
Although foot-and-mouth disease virus (FMDV) incidence has decreased in South America over the last years, the pathogen still circulates in the region and the risk of re-emergence in previously FMDV-free areas is a veterinary public health concern. In this paper we merge environmental, epidemiological and genetic data to reconstruct spatiotemporal ...

Comparative single‐cell transcriptomic profiling of patient‐derived renal carcinoma cells in cellular and animal models of kidney cancer

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
We generated and characterized clear cell renal cell carcinoma models using the patient‐derived RCC243 cell line—including cell culture, orthotopic, and metastatic tumors—via single‐cell RNA‐sequencing for comparisons between models and patient tumor datasets.

FEM1B enhances TRAIL‐induced apoptosis in T lymphocytes and monocytes

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
FEM1B facilitates TRAIL‐induced apoptosis through distinct mechanisms in T lymphocytes and monocytes. In T lymphocytes, FEM1B engages with TRAF2, leading to a reduction in TRAF2 expression, which subsequently lessens TRAF2's inhibitory influence on caspase‐8.

Diagnosis Prevalence vs. Efficacy in Machine-learning Based Diagnostic Decision Support [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2020
Many recent studies use machine learning to predict a small number of ICD-9-CM codes. In practice, on the other hand, physicians have to consider a broader range of diagnoses. This study aims to put these previously incongruent evaluation settings on a more equal footing by predicting ICD-9-CM codes based on electronic health record properties and ...
