Kinematics of the Ankle/Foot Complex: Plantarflexion and Dorsiflexion
Foot & Ankle, 1989In an in vivo investigation of eight healthy volunteers, three dimensional ankle/foot kinematics were analyzed by roentgen stereophotogrammetry in 10° steps of motion from 30° of plantar flexion to 30° of dorsiflexion of the foot. The study included all of the joints between the tibia and the first metatarsal, as well as the talocalcaneal joint, and ...

Analysis of foot kinematics wearing high heels using the Oxford foot model [PDF]
Wearing high heels is thought to lead to various foot disorders and injuries such as metatarsal pain, Achilles tendon tension, plantar fasciitis and Haglund malformation. However, there is little available information explaining the specific mechanisms and reasons why wearing high heels causes foot deformity. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to

Segmentation of foot and ankle complex based on kinematic criteria
Computer Methods in Biomechanics and Biomedical Engineering, 2011Although various foot models were proposed for kinematics assessment using skin makers, no objective justification exists for the foot segmentations. This study proposed objective kinematic criteria to define which foot joints are relevant (dominant) in skin markers assessments.

A system for the analysis of foot and ankle kinematics during gait
IEEE Transactions on Rehabilitation Engineering, 1996A five-camera Vicon (Oxford Metrics, Oxford, England) motion analysis system was used to acquire foot and ankle motion data. Static resolution and accuracy were computed as 0.86 +/- 0.13 mm and 98.9%, while dynamic resolution and accuracy were 0.1 +/- 0.89 and 99.4% (sagittal plane).

Kinematics of the Foot and Ankle
2015This chapter is designed to provide a better understanding of foot and ankle kinematics. In the first half of this Chapter I describe foot arch kinematics and related gender differences, and in the last half I provide a new approach for evaluating talocrural and subtalar joint kinematics.

Kinematics of Foot during Running: A Review
Applied Mechanics and Materials, 2015Running can be considered as an important movement since it can be categorized as one of daily activities. However, running movement may contribute to injuries for example, subject to plantar fasciitis. The objective of this review is to summarize the information of published articles related to kinematics aspect, which is one of key factors that can ...

Effects of Ankle-Foot Orthoses on Ankle and Foot Kinematics in Patients With Subtalar Osteoarthritis
Archives of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, 2006To determine whether different foot orthoses have a similar effect on foot kinematics in subjects with subtalar osteoarthritis (OA) when walking on various ground conditions.Within-subject comparison study.Biomechanics research laboratory.Ten subjects with unilateral subtalar OA.Custom-made ankle foot orthosis (AFO), rigid hindfoot orthosis (HFO-R ...

Effects of Hallux Limitus on Plantar Foot Pressure and Foot Kinematics During Walking
Journal of the American Podiatric Medical Association, 2006The effects of hallux limitus on plantar foot pressure and foot kinematics have received limited attention in the literature. Therefore, a study was conducted to assess the effects of limited first metatarsophalangeal joint mobility on plantar foot pressure.

Realization of foot rotation by breaking the kinematic contact constraint
Robotica, 2014SUMMARYPrevious research has revealed that foot rotation of the supporting foot in a single support phase could increase walking speed. This paper presents a method for force-controlled bipeds to realize foot rotation by breaking the kinematic contact constraint between the supporting foot and the ground.
