Mechanical force induces mitochondrial fission

open access: yeseLife, 2017
Eukaryotic cells are densely packed with macromolecular complexes and intertwining organelles, continually transported and reshaped. Intriguingly, organelles avoid clashing and entangling with each other in such limited space. Mitochondria form extensive

Kinetic parameters as determinants of vertical jump performance

open access: yesRevista Brasileira de Cineantropometria e Desempenho Humano, 2011
The aim of this study was to identify force and velocity parameters related to vertical jump performance in counter movement jump (CMJ) and squat jump (SJ), and to compare these parameters between sprint runners and volleyball players.

Temporary Nerve Block at Selected Digits Revealed Hand Motor Deficits in Grasping Tasks

open access: yesFrontiers in Human Neuroscience, 2016
Peripheral sensory feedback plays a crucial role in ensuring correct motor execution throughout hand grasp control. Previous studies utilized local anesthesia to deprive somatosensory feedback in the digits or hand, observations included sensorimotor ...

Improved side-chain torsion potentials for the Amber ff99SB protein force field

open access: yesProteins: Structure, Function, and Bioinformatics, 2010
Recent advances in hardware and software have enabled increasingly long molecular dynamics (MD) simulations of biomolecules, exposing certain limitations in the accuracy of the force fields used for such simulations and spurring efforts to refine these ...

Preparing Excitable Cardiac Papillary Muscle and Cardiac Slices for Functional Analyses

open access: yesFrontiers in Physiology, 2022
While the reductionist approach has been fruitful in understanding the molecular basis of muscle function, intact excitable muscle preparations are still important as experimental model systems.

Method of training athletes in modern sports fitness with the use of isometric gymnastics and cardio-loads at the initial stage of training

open access: yesЗдоров’я, спорт, реабілітація, 2018
The purpose of the work is to detect the effect of the use of static exercises and isometric gymnastics in combination with cardiovascular stress in the training process in fitness fitness on the indicators of power capabilities, recovery processes ...

Cudworth and More on Immaterial Extension: A New Text with Analysis

open access: yesJournal of Modern Philosophy, 2023
Henry More famously argues that all substances are extended, body and spirit alike. In The True Intellectual System of the Universe, More’s friend and fellow Cambridge Platonist Ralph Cudworth notes More’s position but refrains from criticizing it.

By Force of Habit: A Consumption‐Based Explanation of Aggregate Stock Market Behavior

open access: yesJournal of Political Economy, 1995
We present a consumption‐based model that explains a wide variety of dynamic asset pricing phenomena, including the procyclical variation of stock prices, the long‐horizon predictability of excess stock returns, and the countercyclical variation of stock

Potential Early Risk Biomarkers for Reduced Forced Expiratory Volume in Children Post‐Hematopoietic Cell Transplantation

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT We sought to identify potential early risk biomarkers for lung disease in children post‐allogeneic HCT. Patients with pulmonary function tests 3 months post‐transplant and plasma samples between days 7 and 14 post‐HCT were included. Six of 27 subjects enrolled had reduced forced expiratory volume 1 (FEV1) z scores.
