Forced Sterilization

open access: yesVoices in Bioethics, 2022
Photo by Renè Müller on Unsplash INTRODUCTION Forced sterilization of women around the globe is a human rights violation and bioethical concern. In the past, countries enacted laws to forcibly sterilize women deemed unfit to procreate. Although many of these laws have been retracted, the practice persists under the guise of public health. More recently,

Sequence determinants of RNA G‐quadruplex unfolding by Arg‐rich regions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We show that Arg‐rich peptides selectively unfold RNA G‐quadruplexes, but not RNA stem‐loops or DNA/RNA duplexes. This length‐dependent activity is inhibited by acidic residues and is conserved among SR and SR‐related proteins (SRSF1, SRSF3, SRSF9, U1‐70K, and U2AF1).

Pascal, ou le règne de la force

open access: yesNoctua
If Pascal is essentially present in common representations and in the studies devoted to him as a spiritual and religious author, rarely has a thinker given force such a place in his reading of reality.

A Head-Fixation System for Continuous Monitoring of Force Generated During Behavior

open access: yesFrontiers in Integrative Neuroscience, 2020
Many studies in neuroscience use head-fixed behavioral preparations, which confer a number of advantages, including the ability to limit the behavioral repertoire and use techniques for large-scale monitoring of neural activity.

Does entropic force always imply the Newtonian force law?

open access: yes, 2011
We study the entropic force by introducing a bound $S \le A^{3/4}$ between entropy and area which was derived by imposing the non-gravitational collapse condition.

Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

Quaternary warping at Gorge Saddle, western Southland [PDF]

open access: yes, 1970
Gorge Saddle is one low point on a drainage divide between Fiordland and the Southland Plain. Eastward sloping Quaternary terraces east of the divide and westward sloping terraces to the west contain granitic pebbles which could have been derived only ...

Quantized Casimir Force

open access: yes, 2012
We investigate the Casimir effect between two-dimensional electron systems driven to the quantum Hall regime by a strong perpendicular magnetic field. In the large separation (d) limit where retardation effects are essential we find i) that the Casimir ...

Quantification of three-dimensional orthodontic force systems of T-loop archwires [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Objective: To demonstrate the three-dimensional (3D) orthodontic force systems of three commercial closing T-loop archwires using a new method and to quantify the force systems of the T-loop archwires.

Gap forcing

open access: yesIsrael Journal of Mathematics, 2001
16 pages. Submitted to the Journal of Mathematical Logic. The up-dated version includes an expanded introduction, which sets the main theorem in the historical context of the Levy-Solovay Theorem, and various other small ...
