In an ideal world, blind people could navigate any new route without training, travel by underground/metro during rush hour without problems, and explore with confidence. Environments can be diverse and dynamic and unfortunately no universal gadget-aid solution yet exists to help navigation. Advances in mobile phone technology and entertainment devices

Tuning fork shear-force feedback
Ultramicroscopy, 1998Investigations have been performed on the dynamics of a distance regulation system based on an oscillating probe at resonance. This was examined at a tuning fork shear-force feedback system, which is used as a distance control mechanism in near-field scanning optical microscopy.

Force Feedback for Nanohandling
2007The development of microrobots for nanohandling, with ever-growing demands regarding flexibility and automation, raises the problem of appropriate process control. With dimensions of the parts to be handled of sometimes considerably less than 100 nm and with a typical positioning accuracy in the nanometer range, nanohandling applications have detached ...

Object Manipulation by Hand with Force Feedback
2017This paper describes an implantation of object manipulation with force feedback. A force feedback device SPIDAR-U that is capable of providing independent forces to the thumb and four fingers of a hand was developed. The device was designed to reduce the influence on the magnetic field so that it can be combined with the measurement of hand motion ...

High speed nanopositioning with force feedback
Proceedings of the 2010 American Control Conference, 2010In this work a new method for feedback control of nanopositioning systems is proposed. A measurement of the force applied to the moving platform by the actuator is utilized as a feedback variable for both tracking and damping control. Excellent tracking and damping performance can be achieved with a simple integral controller.

A Multi-Instrument, Force-Feedback Keyboard
Computer Music Journal, 2006When playing a musical instrument, a player perceives not only the sound generated, but also the haptic interaction, arising during the contact between player and instrument. Such haptic interaction, based on the sense of touch, involves several senses in the player: tactile, kinesthetic (i.e., mediated by end organs located in muscles, tendons, and ...
