Numerical investigation of form-stable composite phase change material for battery passive cooling

open access: yesCase Studies in Thermal Engineering, 2023
Phase change material (PCM) has gathered much attention in battery thermal management for electric vehicles, in which form-stable PCM is a promising method to reduce the leakage of energy storage material.

Single‐molecule DNA flow‐stretch assays for high‐throughput DNA–protein interaction studies

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
We describe an optimised single‐molecule DNA flow‐stretch assay that visualises DNA–protein interactions in real time. Linear DNA fragments are tethered to a surface and stretched by buffer flow for fluorescence imaging. Using λ and φX174 DNA, this protocol enhances reproducibility and accessibility, providing a versatile approach for studying diverse ...

Numerical Investigations of Air Flow and Heat Transfer in Axial Flux Permanent Magnet Electrical Machines [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
In this study an investigation of heat transfer in air cooled Axial Flux Permanent Magnet (AFPM) electrical machines is carried out. Efficiency of electrical machines is strongly influenced by an effective cooling which is provided by forced convection:

Large‐scale bidirectional arrayed genetic screens identify OXR1 and EMC4 as modifiers of αSynuclein aggregation

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Activation of the mitochondrial protein OXR1 increases pSyn129 αSynuclein aggregation by lowering ATP levels and altering mitochondrial membrane potential, particularly in response to MSA‐derived fibrils. In contrast, ablation of the ER protein EMC4 enhances autophagic flux and lysosomal clearance, broadly reducing α‐synuclein aggregates.

Heat transfer enhancement to a confined impinging synthetic air jet [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Heat transfer to confined, un-ducted and ducted impinging synthetic air jets is investigated experimentally. The influence of ducting on the cooling performance of synthetic air jets is of particular interest.

Direct Air Cooling of Pipe-Type Transmission Cable for Ampacity Enhancement: Simulations and Experiments

open access: yesEnergies
Amid the growing demand for energy supply in modern cities, the enhancement of transmission capacity is receiving considerable attention. In this study, we propose a novel method of direct forced cooling in pipe-type transmission lines via an external ...

Optimization of forced-air cooling system for accurate design of power converters [PDF]

open access: yes2015 IEEE 24th International Symposium on Industrial Electronics (ISIE), 2015
Finding a global optimum of power converters requires models of all its parts (semiconductors, filters and cooling system), rules to describe the interactions between the different parts, an optimality criterion and optimization routines to converge towards the best design.

Sudden anaerobization in Amphibacillus xylanus increases intracellular labile ferrous iron and inhibits cell growth

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Abruptly changing from aerobic to anaerobic conditions (sudden anaerobization) induced growth inhibition and a significant increase in intracellular labile ferrous iron in the aerotolerant anaerobe Amphibacillus xylanus. We found that free flavins mediate efficient electron transfer from NADH to ferric iron under anaerobic conditions, suggesting that ...

Improvement of summer comfort by passive cooling with increased ventilation and night cooling [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
The study describes the potential improvement of summer comfort and reduction of energy consumption that can be achieved by adopting passive cooling solutions, such as daytime comfort ventilation with increased air velocities and night cooling, in ...
