FOT Technique Applied for Monitoring of COVID-19 Pneumonia Reveals Small Airways Involvement

open access: yesDiagnostics
The fact that some SARS-CoV-2 pneumonia patients benefit from changing body position, and some from continuous positive airways pressure (CPAP), indicates the functional character of hypoxia.

Evaluating the forced oscillation technique in the detection of early smoking-induced respiratory changes

open access: yesBioMedical Engineering OnLine, 2009
Background Early detection of the effects of smoking is of the utmost importance in the prevention of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). The forced oscillation technique (FOT) is easy to perform since it requires only tidal breathing and ...

Deterministic hBN Bubbles as a Versatile Platform for Studies on Single‐Photon Emitters

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Single‐photon emitters (SPEs) in hBN are promising for quantum technologies; however, in exfoliated samples their activation is required, limiting reproducibility of previous studies. This work introduces a large‐area MOVPE‐grown hBN platform that hosts SPEs without prior activation.

Dense Nanofibrillar Collagen–Silica Hybrids with High Strength and ECM‐Mimetic Tissue Integration

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Dense nanofibrillar collagen–silica hybrids are engineered by synchronizing collagen fibrillogenesis with silica condensation, producing printable scaffolds that unexpectedly approach native extracellular matrix organization and strength. These cell‐free constructs guide endogenous cell‐infiltration, enable localized matrix remodeling, and integrate ...

Lung Oscillometry: A Practical Solution for Overcoming Spirometry Challenges

open access: yesJournal of Advanced Lung Health
Background: Lung oscillometry is an alternative pulmonary function test in patients unable to perform spirometry due to cough or dyspnea. Objective: The objective of the study was to study the characteristics of lung oscillometry parameters in patients ...

Magnetism and Nonlinear Charge Transport in NiFe2O4/γ‐Al2O3/SrTiO3 Heterostructure: Toward Spintronic Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
In this report, we demonstrate that a crystalline phase of 52nm thick NiFe2O4 can be grown by RF sputtering on top of γ‐Al2O3(8nm)/SrTiO3 at a significantly low temperature (150 °C) without compromising the mobility and carrier density of the 2D electron gas at the γ‐Al2O3(8nm)/SrTiO3 interface.

Within-breath respiratory impedance and airway obstruction in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease

open access: yesClinics, 2015
OBJECTIVE: Recent work has suggested that within-breath respiratory impedance measurements performed using the forced oscillation technique may help to noninvasively evaluate respiratory mechanics.

Bio‐Inspired Molecular Events in Poly(Ionic Liquids)

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Originating from dipolar and polar inter‐ and intra‐chain interactions of the building blocks, the topologies and morphologies of poly(ionic liquids) (PIL) govern their nano‐ and micro‐processibility. Modulating the interactions of cation‐anion pairs with aliphatic dipolar components enables the tunability of properties, facilitated by “bottom‐up ...
