Computation of Roll Force and Torque in Cold-Rolling by Modern Theory

Journal of Applied Mechanics, 1956
Abstract The full theory for the comparison of calculated roll force and torque with experimental values is outlined. This takes into account the strip elastic compression, the derivation of the yield-stress curves in cold-rolling, and the accurate values for friction coefficient between rolls and strip.

Simplified theories of flat rolling—I. The calculation of roll pressure, roll force and roll torque

International Journal of Mechanical Sciences, 1996
Abstract The classical theories of rolling continue to be widely used in practice although finite element methods can provide a more detailed analysis of the deformation during rolling. Both a homogeneous deformation solution and an inhomogeneous method for calculating the roll pressure are reformulated as a development of the classical theories of ...

ROLLING RESISTANCE FORCE MEASURING

SAE Technical Paper Series, 2007
<div class="htmlview paragraph">The purpose of this work is to make a system for to measure the rolling force using a tire and a moving belt. The starting point is to establish study arguments as tire pressure, camber, divergence, convergence and steering knuckle force. The low cost made equipment allows the angles adjustment, and applied load on

On damping models in free and forced rolling motion

Ocean Engineering, 1982
In this paper two different models for the damping moment to introduce in the roll motion differential equation are considered. They are linear+quadratic and respectively linear+cubic in the roll velocity and contain angle dependent terms. They constitute a generalization of all the models up to now presented in the literature.

Forced transverse vibration of rolls for four-high rolling mill

Journal of Central South University of Technology, 2009
In order to investigate the forced transverse vibration of rolls under distributed draught pressure and moment of bending roll force, the forced transverse vibration model of rolls for four-high rolling mill was established. The work roll and backup roll were considered as elastic continuous bodies that were joined by a Winkler elastic layer. According

Optimization Design of Rolling Schedules with Rolling Force Self-learning

2006 6th World Congress on Intelligent Control and Automation, 2006
Single and multi-object optimization planning are presented for 1370mm tandem cold rolling schedules separately, in which, BP neural network with self-learning function is adopted to predict the rolling force instead of traditional models. Analysis and comparison with existing schedules are offered, and the performance of the optimal rolling schedules ...

The Calculation of Roll Force and Torque in Hot Rolling Mills

Proceedings of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, 1954
Equations are derived for the normal roll pressure, specific roll load and torque in hot rolling mills, using the condition for plastic deformation in rolling derived by Orowan, together with von Kármán's equation of equilibrium. Although applying strictly to the rolling of ideal plastic-rigid materials, these equations may be applied to the rolling ...

Study of Rolling Force Calculation Models for Cold Rolling Process

Advanced Materials Research, 2010
For cold rolling process, the theoretical Bland-Ford-Hill model and Hitchcock model are used for the rolling force and roll flatten radius calculation. Friction coefficient and deformation resistance are calculated with empirical regression models. From rolling force model, the recalculation model for the friction coefficient and deformation resistance

New approach for prediction of roll force in rod rolling

Ironmaking & Steelmaking, 2002
An approximate model is presented in which the equation for computing roll force in an oval-round (or round-oval) pass rolling sequence has been formulated with a new approach. The fundamental idea considered is to introduce the concept of a weak plane strain condition which gives a two-dimensional approximation of the three-dimensional deformation ...
