Frictional force on rolling objects

American Journal of Physics, 1979
An experiment investigating the direction of the frictional force exerted by a horizontal surface on a rolling object is discussed. Students generally find the results surprising; however, the observations support the predictions of rotational dynamics. The experiment is suitable for an introductory mechanics laboratory.

Force-Based Roll Centers and an Improved Kinematic Roll Center

SAE Technical Paper Series, 2006
<div class="htmlview paragraph">Roll Centers are an important tuning tool but their importance is often misunderstood. The roll center has too often become a mysterious concept rather than a simple descriptive parameter. Roll Centers may be determined from forces (the Force-Based Roll Center) or the more familiar kinematic method. This paper will

Dynamic Control of Rolling Force in Mechanical Deep Rolling

This bachelor’s thesis addresses the development, simulation, and implementation of a control system for the dynamic regulation of rolling force during mechanical burnishing. The focus is on managing transfer stagnation and disturbances in the rolling process using modern control engineering approaches such as PID controllers, Smith predictors, and ...
