Forced Vibration of a Body on an Elastic Stratum

Journal of Applied Mechanics, 1957
Abstract The paper considers the forced vibration of a body with a circular base resting on a homogeneous elastic stratum of infinite surface area and constant depth. The body is subjected to a vertical disturbing force along the axis of symmetry.

Forced Vibrations for a Superlinear Vibrating String Equation

1987
Publisher Summary Many mathematicians are concerned with free vibrations—that is, they assume f(x, t) = 0 and find non trivial solutions. This chapter discusses the nonlinear vibrating string equation.

Forced lattice vibrations. II

Summary: [For part I see ibid., 1187-1250 (1995; Zbl 0860.34004, see the preceding review).] This is the second part of a two-part series on forced lattice vibrations in which a semi-infinite lattice of one-dimensional particles \(\{x_n\}_{n\geq 1}\), \[ \text{(i)}\quad \ddot x_n=F(x_{n-1}-x_n)- F(x_n-x_{n+1}),\;n\geq 1,\qquad \text{(ii)}\quad x_n(0 ...
