Force Calibration in Lateral Force Microscopy
Journal of Colloid and Interface Science, 2000An analysis of the contact mechanics and the forces of interaction in lateral force microscopy measurements is presented. This analysis allows for a new method of interpretation of the frictional forces, the lateral contact stiffness, and the contact shear strength.

Force Elements and Reaction Forces
2015In the present chapter some of the most relevant applied forces and joint reaction forces are introduced. There are many types of forces that can be present in multibody systems, such as gravitational forces, spring-damper-actuator forces, normal contact forces, tangential or frictional forces, external applied forces and moments, forces due to ...

Optimal force, differential force, and anchorage
American Journal of Orthodontics, 1969Abstract 1. 1. When applied to canine retraction for a clinically useful period of time, there are no data to support the theory of optimal force. 2. 2. The logical derivative of this theory, differential force as it is currently employed, could not be substantiated in the present study. 3. 3.

The appropriate use of force-on-force cyberexercises
IEEE Security & Privacy, 2004Over time, network threats change, so a computer network defense system must be periodically tested to assess its true ability. Within the computer network arena, organizations are using cyberexercises to test reactions to security attacks and penetrations.

Force propagation and force generation in cells
Cytoskeleton, 2010AbstractDetermining how forces are produced by and propagated through the cytoskeleton (CSK) of the cell is of great interest as dynamic processes of the CSK are intimately correlated with many molecular signaling pathways. We are presenting a novel approach for integrating measurements on cell elasticity, transcellular force propagation, and cellular ...

Tendon Forces Balancing a Force on the Fingertip
Journal of Biomechanics, 1982Many problems in which muscle or tendon forces must be calculated are indeterminate. Finding tendon forces balancing a force on the fingertip is such (static) problem. Several criteria are possible for the optimization of these tendon forces.

Forced Oscillations with Nonlinear Restoring Force
Journal of Applied Physics, 1953Forced oscillations with nonlinear restoring force are studied in transient states as well as in steady states. The original differential equation characterized by a nonlinear term is transformed under certain restrictions to the following differential equation of the first order: dy/dx=Y(x,y)/X(x,y).
