Geochemistry of volcanic rocks from the Sunda Arc [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Geochemical analyses of igneous rocks can provide valuable information about processes, element fluxes, and rock lithologies not evident at the surface.

Enlightenment of the Mariana Fore‐arc Sedimentary Basin Evolution to the Subduction Process

Acta Geologica Sinica, 2022
AbstractThe Mariana subduction structure is a hot topic in ocean‐ocean subduction zone research, and its subduction mechanism has attracted wide attention from experts and scholars in China and abroad. Based on the multi‐channel seismic data of survey line MGL1204 in the Mariana fore‐arc and DSDP ocean drilling data, this paper studies the development ...

A fore-arc origin for the Thrace Basin, NW Turkey

Geologische Rundschau: Zeitschrift Fur Allgemeine Geologie, 1996
Hydrocarbon-bearing Thrace Basin occupies much of the European part of Turkey. The Middle Eocene to Oligocene sequence in the centre of the basin exceeds 9 km in thickness. Based on the stratigraphy, structure and the regional context of this basin, we propose that it developed as a fore-arc basin between the medial Eocene and the Oligocene, above the ...

Unusual composition of pore waters found in the Izu–Bonin fore-arc sedimentary basin

open access: yesNature, 1990
Extensively altered brines, with a composition different from that of any previously reported natural water, have been recovered by deep coring of sediments in the Izu-Bonin fore-arc sedimentary basin. Samples from successive depths document the chemical evolution of these unusual pore waters, from sea water to highly enriched CaCl brines.

Characteristics of an active vent in the fore-arc basin of the Sunda Arc, Indonesia

Marine Geology, 2002
RV Sonne cruise SO139 discovered active fluid venting at an anticline structure in the fore-arc basin of the Sunda Arc south of Java. Fluid venting is indicated by methane anomalies in the water column, elevated heat flow, vent-typical macrofauna, authigenic carbonate precipitation at the sea floor and methane-rich pore fluids of the sediments.

Isotope-tracking of pore water freshening in the fore-arc basin of the Japan Trench

Marine Geology, 2005
Abstract Pore waters of sediments in convergent zones typically show a decrease in chloride (Cl−) concentrations with depth that suggests the advection of chloride-depleted fluids. Studies from ODP Leg 186 indicate that sediments accumulated in the fore-arc of the Japan Trench also exhibit a freshening of pore waters with depth.

Cretaceous fore-arc basalts from the Tonga arc: Geochemistry and implications for the tectonic history of the SW Pacific [PDF]

open access: yesTectonophysics, 2014
Highlights: • The geochemistry of a Cretaceous Tongan fore-arc basalt (FAB) suite is reported. • The Tonga FAB suite is very similar to the Poya Terrane basalts of New Caledonia.

Fore-arc basin deformation in the Andaman-Nicobar segment of the Sumatra-Andaman subduction zone: Insight from high-resolution seismic reflection data

open access: yesTectonics, 2015
International audienceThe Andaman-Nicobar region is the northernmost segment of the Sumatra-Andaman subduction zone and marks the western boundary of the Andaman Sea, which is a complex active back-arc extensional basin.
