Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.

Demand Forecasting for Water Distribution Systems
AbstractShort-term water demand forecasts can provide valuable information to distribution system operators for controlling the produc- tion, storage and delivery of drinking water. Our current research is focused on developing an integrated Time Series Forecasting Framework (TSFF) to statistically predict hourly/quarter-hourly demands in real-world ...

Optimal Dispatch of Residential Photovoltaic Inverters Under Forecasting Uncertainties
Efforts to ensure reliable operation of existing low-voltage distribution systems with high photovoltaic (PV) generation have focused on the possibility of inverters providing ancillary services such as active power curtailment and reactive power ...

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

This study reveals a unique active site enriched in methionine residues and demonstrates that these residues play a critical role by stabilizing carbocation intermediates through novel sulfur–cation interactions. Structure‐guided mutagenesis further revealed variants with significantly altered product profiles, enhancing pseudopterosin formation. These

Quantile Forecasts of Daily Exchange Rate Returns from Forecasts of Realized Volatility [PDF]
Quantile forecasts are central to risk management decisions because of the widespread use of Value-at-Risk. A quantile forecast is the product of two factors : the model used to forecast volatility, and the method of computing quantiles from the ...

Aggressive prostate cancer is associated with pericyte dysfunction
Tumor‐produced TGF‐β drives pericyte dysfunction in prostate cancer. This dysfunction is characterized by downregulation of some canonical pericyte markers (i.e., DES, CSPG4, and ACTA2) while maintaining the expression of others (i.e., PDGFRB, NOTCH3, and RGS5).
