Mapping Torreya grandis Spatial Distribution Using High Spatial Resolution Satellite Imagery with the Expert Rules-Based Approach

open access: yesRemote Sensing, 2017
Rapid expansion of Torreya forests in the mountainous region in Zhejiang Province in the past three decades has produced many environmental problems such as soil erosion and poor water quality, requiring an update of its spatial distribution in a timely ...

Boosts in leaf-level photosynthetic capacity aid Pinus ponderosa recovery from wildfire

open access: yesEnvironmental Research Letters, 2022
Forests mitigate climate change by sequestering massive amounts of carbon, but recent increases in wildfire activity are threatening carbon storage. Currently, our understanding of wildfire impacts on forest resilience and the mechanisms controlling post-

Examining Spectral Reflectance Saturation in Landsat Imagery and Corresponding Solutions to Improve Forest Aboveground Biomass Estimation

open access: yesRemote Sensing, 2016
The data saturation problem in Landsat imagery is well recognized and is regarded as an important factor resulting in inaccurate forest aboveground biomass (AGB) estimation.

FOREST CARBON SINKS IN THE NORTHERN HEMISPHERE

open access: yesEcological Applications, 2002
There is general agreement that terrestrial systems in the Northern Hemisphere provide a significant sink for atmospheric CO2; however, estimates of the magnitude and distribution of this sink vary greatly. National forest inventories provide strong, measurement-based constraints on the magnitude of net forest carbon uptake.

Risk of Non‐Arteritic Anterior Ischemic Optic Neuropathy in Idiopathic Intracranial Hypertension Patients Treated with GLP‐1 Receptor Agonists

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Introduction Glucagon‐like peptide‐1 receptor agonists (GLP‐1 RAs) have demonstrated significant weight‐reducing effects and may offer benefits in idiopathic intracranial hypertension (IIH); however, recent concerns about the risk of non‐arteritic anterior ischemic optic neuropathy (NAION) have emerged.

Artificial Intelligence in Systemic Sclerosis: Clinical Applications, Challenges, and Future Directions

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, EarlyView.
Systemic sclerosis (SSc) is a rare autoimmune disease defined by immune dysregulation, vasculopathy, and progressive fibrosis of the skin and internal organs. Despite advances in care, major complications such as interstitial lung disease (ILD) and myocardial involvement remain the leading causes of morbidity and mortality.

Can joint carbon and biodiversity management in tropical agroforestry landscapes be optimized? [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Managing ecosystems for carbon storage may also benefit biodiversity conservation, but such a potential 'win-win' scenario has not yet been assessed for tropical agroforestry landscapes.

Zein‐Based Adhesives: Sustainable Extraction and Application in Bioadhesive Technologies

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Zein is extracted from corn gluten meal using a simple and scalable process with high yield (~90%). The resulting protein is applied in bioadhesives modified with Ca2+ and Fe3+ ions, exhibiting substrate‐dependent adhesion. The findings demonstrate competitive bonding performance and highlight the role of ionic interactions in tuning adhesion ...

Current Status and Challenges in Data Collection for Aerospace Coatings Deposited by Plasma Spraying

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
An innovative approach has been integrated into the GRENAT project to optimize plasma spraying and coating performance. Raw materials are accelerated and melted in the plasma generated by torches, creating coatings. Monitoring sensors collect process data which are combined with ex situ characterization data.
