Chitosan‐Carbon Dot Composite Materials Form a Leaf Surface Barrier to Mitigate the Enrichment and Invasion of Nanoplastics: From Leaf Interface to Systemic Response

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Foliar spraying of CS‐CDs can form a film on the leaves of Brassica rapa, effectively reducing the enrichment and absorption of PS in the leaves, while increasing the biomass and nutrient content of the plants. In addition, CS‐CDs can also enrich the interfoliar microbial community and activate the plant's own defense metabolic pathways.

An automatic monitoring method for disturbance caused by deforestation and forest fires

open access: yesInternational Journal of Digital Earth
Timely and accurate detection and assessment of forest disturbances are crucial for early warning and risk prevention of forest disasters. This study presents an automated forest disturbance monitoring algorithm with three main steps: (1) extracting ...

Disturbance refugia within mosaics of forest fire, drought, and insect outbreaks

open access: yes
Disturbance refugia – locations that experience less severe or frequent disturbances than the surrounding landscape – provide a framework to highlight not only where and why these biological legacies persist as adjacent areas change but also the value of

Spatiotemporal Control of Formation of Dynamic Protein Fiber Assemblies via Photophysical Effects of a Focused Laser Beam

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Tightly focused laser irradiation can accumulate tubulin proteins at/around the laser focus, which leads to the formation of highly ordered microtubule assemblies. The assemblies can exhibit various dynamic behaviors such as radial motion, bundling, and flagella‐like rotation with motor protein and chemical energy, highlighting as a unique tool for ...

Unraveling the Power of Disorder: A Bioinspired Cuttlebone Structure With Superior Strength, Energy Absorption and Isotropy

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Cuttlebone‐inspired architected metamaterials introduce controlled structural disorder to simultaneously enhance strength, energy absorption, and compressive stability. Tunable disorder suppresses shear anisotropy, outperforms periodic lattices, and establishes discrete randomness as a robust route to high‐performance lightweight mechanical ...

Threatened bryophytes of the neotropical rain forest : a status report

open access: yes, 1992
Tropical deforestation, inevitably, leads to the local loss of bryophyte species. Recent studies show that the degree of species loss may vary considerably and depends on the scale or amount of habitat change that has occurred.

Nano Carbon‐mesh with Excellent Bonding Performance via Hydro‐cage De‐shielding Strategy

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A hydro‐cage de‐shielding strategy transforms cellulose‐based films into a dragonfly‐wing‐like nano carbon‐mesh (NCM) adhesive through instantaneous carbonization‐polymerization. The resulting NCM‐plywood achieves exceptional wet shear strength (1.24 MPa at 63°C), exceeding Class II plywood standards, and retains 0.73 MPa after boiling‐water cycles ...

Mechanism‐Informed Machine Learning Enables Discovery of Oncolytic Peptides for Cancer Immunotherapy

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
MISPOP integrates ensemble learning with membrane‐active physicochemical priors to identify Dermaseptin‐S9, a natural oncolytic peptide that disrupts tumor membranes, triggers immunogenic cell death, and shows strong antitumor activity. The study illustrates a mechanism‐informed route from peptide sequence data to cancer immunotherapy leads.
