Automatic tree crown segmentation using dense forest point clouds from Personal Laser Scanning (PLS)

open access: yesInternational Journal of Applied Earth Observations and Geoinformation, 2022
Among digital-based technologies to monitor forest ecosystems, personal laser scanning (PLS) has high potential to characterize even complex deciduous and rainforests.

Linkages between climate, seasonal wood formation and mycorrhizal mushroom yields [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Fungi provide important forest ecosystem services worldwide. In Mediterranean pine forests, predicted warmer and drier conditions could lead to a decline in mushroom yields.

Temporally resolved intra-annual wood density variations in European beech (Fagus sylvatica L.) as affected by climate and aspect

open access: yesAnnals of Forest Research, 2012
We investigated the temporal variability of intra-annual wood density variations in European beech (Fagus sylvatica L.) in a valley in southwestern Germany. Samples were collected from 11 beech trees growing at north-west (NW) and south-west (SW) exposed

Comparison of 3D Point Clouds Obtained by Terrestrial Laser Scanning and Personal Laser Scanning on Forest Inventory Sample Plots

open access: yesData, 2020
In forest inventory, trees are usually measured using handheld instruments; among the most relevant are calipers, inclinometers, ultrasonic devices, and laser range finders.

Modeling dominant height growth using permanent plot data for Pinus brutia stands in the Eastern Mediterranean region

open access: yesForest Systems, 2021
Aim of the study: At current, forest management in the Eastern Mediterranean region is largely based on experience rather than on management plans. To support the development of such plans, this study develops and compares site index equations for pure ...

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

Effects of the urban heat island and climate change on the growth of Khaya senegalensis in Hanoi, Vietnam

open access: yesForest Ecosystems, 2018
Background Recent projections expect that Vietnam will be affected most severely by climate change with higher temperatures, more precipitation and rising sea levels.

Forest Inventory with Long Range and High-Speed Personal Laser Scanning (PLS) and Simultaneous Localization and Mapping (SLAM) Technology

open access: yesRemote Sensing, 2020
The use of new and modern sensors in forest inventory has become increasingly efficient. Nevertheless, the majority of forest inventory data are still collected manually, as part of field surveys.

Performance comparison of RGB and multispectral vegetation indices based on machine learning for estimating Hopea hainanensis SPAD values under different shade conditions

open access: yesFrontiers in Plant Science, 2022
Reasonable cultivation is an important part of the protection work of endangered species. The timely and nondestructive monitoring of chlorophyll can provide a basis for the accurate management and intelligent development of cultivation.

Circular RNA expression landscapes in myelodysplastic neoplasms: Associations with mutational signatures and disease progression

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
In this explorative study, the abundance of circular RNA molecules in bone marrow stem cells was found to be elevated in patients with high‐risk myelodysplastic neoplasms, and to be associated with an increased risk of progression to acute myeloid leukemia.
