An assessment of the use of airborne LiDAR for estimating growth of Sitka spruce (Picea sitchensis) plantation forestry at Kielder Forest, UK [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
A growing need exists for the collection of accurate and up-to-date information on forest growth rates for management purposes. Recent studies indicate that airborne laser scanning (ALS) offers a quicker and more cost-effective approach than the ...

Detection and Modeling of Unstructured Roads in Forest Areas Based on Visual-2D Lidar Data Fusion

open access: yes, 2021
The detection and recognition of unstructured roads in forest environments are critical for smart forestry technology. Forest roads lack effective reference objects and manual signs and have high degrees of nonlinearity and uncertainty, which pose severe

Wood Cellulosic Membrane With Abundant Nanochannels for Stabilizing Aqueous Zn‐Ion Batteries

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A wood‐derived cellulosic membrane separator is developed to suppress dendrite growth in aqueous zinc‐ion batteries. Its aligned nanochannels and hydroxyl‐rich surfaces enable uniform Zn2+ flux, water immobilization, and interfacial stabilization. Zn||Zn cells achieve 1920 h of cycling, Zn||Cu cells maintain 99.5% Coulombic efficiency over 1000 cycles,

Aspects of precommercial thinning [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
Precommercial thinning (PCT) in young forests in Sweden has been an important part of the silvicultural system since the 1950s. However, the annual area treated with PCT has decreased since the 1990s. At the same time the relative cost of PCT compared to

Forests and woods bridges: considerations based on a fieldwork with mozambicans and brazilians forestry engineers

open access: yesMediações: Revista de Ciências Sociais, 2020
The present paper discusses the agencies amid humans and non-humans through secondary materials of a research concluded in 2015, between Mozambican forest engineers living in Curitiba, Brazil. It departs from the comprehension that the relations between Brazilians and Mozambicans is based in a epistemological common ground, which is the knowledge in ...
