A time-extended Hamiltonian formalism

open access: yes, 1998
A Poisson structure on the time-extended space R x M is shown to be appropriate for a Hamiltonian formalism in which time is no more a privileged variable and no a priori geometry is assumed on the space M of motions.

M-Theory in the Gaugeon Formalism [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
In this paper we will analyse the Aharony-Bergman-Jafferis-Maldacena (ABJM) theory in $\mathcal{N}=1$ superspace formalism. We then study the quantum gauge transformations for this ABJM theory in gaugeon formalism.

Conservation-dissipation formalism of irreversible thermodynamics [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
We propose a conservation-dissipation formalism (CDF) for coarse-grained descriptions of irreversible processes. This formalism is based on a stability criterion for non-equilibrium thermodynamics.

Magnetic‐Field Tuning of the Spin Dynamics in the Quasi‐2D Van der Waals Antiferromagnet CuCrP2S6

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study reveals 2D character of the spin dynamics in CuCrP2S6, as well as complex field dependence of collective excitations in the antiferromagnetically ordered state. Their remarkable tuning from the antiferromagnetic to the ferromagnetic type with magnetic field, together with the non‐degeneracy of the magnon gaps favorable for the induction of ...

Examples of Embedded Defects (in Particle Physics and Condensed Matter) [PDF]

open access: yes, 1995
We present a series of examples designed to clarify the formalism of the companion paper `Embedded Vortices'. After summarising this formalism in a prescriptive sense, we run through several examples: firstly, deriving the embedded defect spectrum for ...

Fast‐Responding O2 Gas Sensor Based on Luminescent Europium Metal‐Organic Frameworks (MOF‐76)

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Luminescent MOF‐76 materials based on Eu(III) and mixed Eu(III)/Y(III) show rapid and reversible changes in emission intensity in response to O2 with very short response times. The effect is based on triplet quenching of the linker ligands that act as photosensitizers. Average emission lifetimes of a few milliseconds turn out to be mostly unaffected by

Altered but Not Silenced: How Shostakovich Retained His Voice as an Artist despite the Demands of a Dictator

open access: yesMusical Offerings, 2013
Can music that is regulated and restrained by a dictator still be inspired? This question reveals ideology concerning how music should be created and valued. Does outside control restrict artistic integrity and autonomy?

Hamiltonian formalism of extended magnetohydrodynamics [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
The extended magnetohydrodynamics (MHD) system, including the Hall effect and the electron inertia effect, has a Hamiltonian structure embodied by a noncanonical Poisson algebra on an infinite-dimensional phase space. A nontrivial part of the formulation

Unveiling Phonon Contributions to Thermal Conductivity and the Applicability of the Wiedemann—Franz Law in Ruthenium and Tungsten Thin Films

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Thermal transport in Ru and W thin films is studied using steady‐state thermoreflectance, ultrafast pump–probe spectroscopy, infrared‐visible spectroscopy, and computations. Significant Lorenz number deviations reveal strong phonon contributions, reaching 45% in Ru and 62% in W.

Symplectic gaugings and the field-antifield formalism

open access: yes, 2011
We give an example of how conventional gauging methods obstruct a systematic analysis of gauged supergravities. We discuss how the embedding tensor formalism deals with these problems and argue that the gauge algebra related to the embedding tensor ...
