Catalytic transfer hydrogenolysis as an efficient route in cleavage of lignin and model compounds

open access: yesGreen Energy & Environment, 2018
Cleavage of aromatic ether bonds through hydrogenolysis is one of the most promising routes for depolymerisation and transformation of lignin into value-added chemicals. Instead of using pressurized hydrogen gas as hydrogen source, some reductive organic

Oxylipins Associated to Current Diseases Detected for the First Time in the Oxidation of Corn Oil as a Model System of Oils Rich in Omega-6 Polyunsaturated Groups. A Global, Broad and in-Depth Study by 1H NMR Spectroscopy

open access: yesAntioxidants, 2020
For the first time, an important number of oxylipins have been identified and quantified in corn oil submitted to mild oxidative conditions at each time of their oxidation process.

Competition-related factors directly influence preferences for facial cues of dominance in allies [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Alliance formation is a critical dimension of social intelligence in political, social and biological systems. As some allies may provide greater ‘leverage’ than others during social conflict, the cognitive architecture that supports alliance formation ...

Promiscuous stimulation of HSP70 ATPase activity by parasite‐derived J‐domains

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The malaria parasite Plasmodium falciparum exports three highly homologous yet functionally divergent J‐domain proteins into human erythrocytes. Here, we show that J‐domains isolated from all three proteins effectively stimulate the ATPase activity of both endogenous host and exported parasite HSP70 chaperones.

Single‐molecule DNA flow‐stretch assays for high‐throughput DNA–protein interaction studies

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
We describe an optimised single‐molecule DNA flow‐stretch assay that visualises DNA–protein interactions in real time. Linear DNA fragments are tethered to a surface and stretched by buffer flow for fluorescence imaging. Using λ and φX174 DNA, this protocol enhances reproducibility and accessibility, providing a versatile approach for studying diverse ...

Extraction of Rare Earth Ions from Hydrochloric Acid Solution with TBP-[Cnmim][Tf2N] and Their Back Extraction

open access: yesJournal of MMIJ, 2016
Mutual separation of rare earth ions is very difficult because of their similar chemical properties. In this study, extraction of Nd (III), Dy (III), and Pr (III) from hydrochloric acid solution and their back extraction have been investigated using the ...

Role of Hydroxyl Groups in the Preferential Oxidation of CO over Copper Oxide–Cerium Oxide Catalysts [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Model CuO/Ce0.8X0.2Oδ catalysts (with X = Ce, Zr, La, Pr, or Nd) have been prepared in order to obtain CuO/ceria materials with different chemical features and have been characterized by X-ray diffraction, Raman spectroscopy, N2 adsorption, and H2 ...

Analysing the significance of small conformational changes and low occupancy states in serial crystallographic data

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
This protocol paper outlines methods to establish the success of a time‐resolved serial crystallographic experiment, by means of statistical analysis of timepoint data in reciprocal space and models in real space. We show how to amplify the signal from excited states to visualise structural changes in successful experiments.
