Optical Manipulation of Multiferroic Phases in BiFeO3 Thin Films

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView.
At the strain‐driven morphotropic phase boundary, optical control over the multiferroic rhombohedral and tetragonal phase mixture is demonstrated using above‐bandgap light illumination. The photoinduced charge carriers modify the electrostatic environment and induce the conversion into a single tetragonal phase.

Impulsive Maneuvers for Formation Reconfiguration Using Relative Orbital Elements

open access: yesJournal of Guidance, Control, and Dynamics, 2015
Advanced multisatellite missions based on formation-flying and on-orbit servicing concepts require the capability to arbitrarily reconfigure the relative motion in an autonomous, fuel efficient, and flexible manner. Realistic flight scenarios impose maneuvering time constraints driven by the satellite bus, by the payload, or by collision avoidance ...

Finite-Time Control for Satellite Formation Reconfiguration and Maintenance in LEO: A Nonlinear Lyapunov-Based SDDRE Approach

open access: yesAerospace
This paper introduces a nonlinear Lyapunov-based Finite-Time State-Dependent Differential Riccati Equation (FT-SDDRE) control scheme, considering actuator saturation constraints and ensuring that the control system operates within safe operational limits

Light‐Programmable Interfaces: From Molecular Photoswitching to Adaptive Membrane Separations

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView.
This review advances an interface‐centered framework for light‐responsive membranes, linking molecular photoswitches (azobenzene (AZO), spiropyran (SP), diarylethene (DAE), donor–acceptor Stenhouse adducts (DASA), photoacid) to integration strategies in polymeric, porous, self‐assembled, and mixed‐matrix systems.

Flight-testing of the self-repairing flight control system using the F-15 highly integrated digital electronic control flight research facility [PDF]

open access: yes
Flight tests conducted with the self-repairing flight control system (SRFCS) installed on the NASA F-15 highly integrated digital electronic control aircraft are described. The development leading to the current SRFCS configuration is highlighted.

BLOC: Buildable and Linkable Organ on a Chip

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
We developed a “Buildable and Linkable Organ on a Chip” (BLOC) that can construct diverse microphysiological systems (MPSs). The BLOC is standardized to the same size and has one of the functions of “Culture,” “Control,” or “Analysis.” Users can freely configure various MPSs, including developing perfusion, cytotoxicity analysis, and biochemical ...

Hypersonic Flow Field Reconfiguration and Drag Reduction of Blunt Body with Spikes and Sideward Jets

open access: yesInternational Journal of Aerospace Engineering, 2018
Flow field reconfiguration and drag reduction have been investigated by numerically solving Navier-Stokes equations, with the 2nd order dispersion controlled dissipative scheme adopted for the convective term discretion and the 2nd order central ...

Transducers Across Scales and Frequencies: A System‐Level Framework for Multiphysics Integration and Co‐Design

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
Transducers convert physical signals into electrical and optical representations, yet each mechanism is bounded by intrinsic trade‐offs across bandwidth, sensitivity, speed, and energy. This review maps transduction mechanisms across physical scale and frequency, showing how heterogeneous integration and multiphysics co‐design transform isolated ...
