Structural insights and therapeutic targets in Acinetobacter baumannii capsule biosynthesis

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Hypervirulent KL49 A. baumannii's capsular polysaccharide contains the nonulosonic acid 8‐epi‐Leg5,7Ac2, synthesized by epimerization via ElaA, ElaB, and ElaC. Crystal structures of ElaA, ElaB, and ElaC reveal their role in CMP‐Leg5,7Ac2 synthesis and regioselective C8 epimerization.

α‐Synuclein aggregation landscape from phase separation to neurotoxic intermediates

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Alpha‐synuclein aggregation in Parkinson's disease involves a complex landscape of transient intermediates, including oligomers, fibrils and liquid–liquid phase separation (LLPS). A view is emerging in which LLPS maturation into solid‐like condensates may contribute to the formation of neurotoxic species.

Three phosphatase families form a community: The phosphohydrolases that act upon inositol pyrophosphates

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Inositol pyrophosphates are energy‐rich signaling molecules that perform critical functions in cells. Three different families of phosphatases hydrolyze the β phosphate of the inositol pyrophosphate molecules: two have narrow specificities and one is promiscuous.

Design and analysis strategies for robust microbiome ageing research

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The gut microbiome changes with age and associates with age‐related morbidity and mortality, establishing it as a potential biomarker and intervention target for ageing. Realising this potential requires methodological rigour, yet distinguishing biological signals from methodological artefacts remains challenging across cohorts. This review provides an

Dehydrogenation of formic acid catalyzed by an osmium-polyhydride: Relevance of acid assistance in the CO2 formation stage

open access: yes
Complex OsH4{κ1-P,η2-GeH-[iPr2PCH(Me)CH2GeEt2H]}(PiPr3) (1) breaks down formic acid into H2 and CO2. The decomposition is catalytic with complex 1 being the main metallic species detected spectroscopically during the process.

An Evaluation of Formic Acid /Acetic Acid Ratio in Organic Acid Concentration in Display Cases

open access: yes, 2014
In the museum environment, contamination of air in display cases by organic acid gases emitted from interior materials has been a problem because metal objects are deteriorated due to acetic acid and formic acid among organic acids.

Combined UV and Formic Acid Treatment Suppresses Aspergillus flavus and Aflatoxin B1 on Dried Red Chili Powder

open access: yesFoods
Aflatoxin contamination poses a significant food safety risk, particularly during the storage of dried chili peppers. This study evaluated the efficacy of formic acid treatment, ultraviolet (UV) treatment, and combined UV-formic acid treatment in both ...

ABL kinase‐dependent phosphorylation of SH proteins promotes their direct interaction with CRK family SH2 domains

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
CT10 regulator of kinase (CRK) and CRK‐Like (CRKL) are signaling adaptors driving cell adhesion, motility, differentiation, and proliferation. SH2‐domain containing (SH) proteins are enriched in YXXP motifs which when phosphorylated create preferred binding sites for CRK family SH2 domains.

Magic Numbers in Formic Acid Water Clusters Revealed by VUV Photoionization Mass Spectrometry and Density Functional Calculations

open access: yes
The interaction between formic acid (FA) and water (W) holds significant importance in various chemical processes. Our study combines vacuum-ultraviolet photoionization mass spectrometry with density functional calculations to investigate formic acid ...
