Measurement and Analysis of Temperature-Dependent Optical Modal Gain in Single-Layer InAs/InP(100) Quantum-Dot Amplifiers in the 1.6- to 1.8-$\mu\hbox{m}$ Wavelength Range

open access: yesIEEE Photonics Journal, 2012
In this paper, measurements and analysis of the small-signal net modal gain of single-layer InAs/InP(100) quantum-dot (QD) optical amplifiers are presented. The amplifiers use only a single layer of InAs QDs on top of a thin InAs quantum well.

Calibration of an InP-Based Monolithically Integrated Optical Pulse Shaper

open access: yesIEEE Photonics Journal, 2013
We present the calibration method and characterization of a monolithically integrated semiconductor optical pulse shaper. The photonic integrated circuit has been realized in an InP-based generic photonic foundry process.

Finite-temperature reaction-rate formula: Finite volume system, detailed balance, $T \to 0$ limit, and cutting rules [PDF]

open access: yes, 1997
A complete derivation, from first principles, of the reaction-rate formula for a generic process taking place in a heat bath of finite volume is given. It is shown that the formula involves no finite-volume correction.

Design and Demonstration of Apodized Comb Filters on SOI

open access: yesIEEE Photonics Journal, 2012
We report on the design, modeling, and characterization of apodized comb filters in the silicon-on-insulator platform. These devices are based on sampled gratings, wherein the comb response is generated by a convolution of a regular grating by a ...

Quasi-parabolic Siegel Formula [PDF]

open access: yes, 1996
The result of Siegel that the Tamagawa number of $SL_r$ over a function field is 1 has an expression purely in terms of vector bundles on a curve, which is known as the Siegel formula. We prove an analogous formula for vector bundles with quasi-parabolic

Review of Infant Feeding: Key Features of Breast Milk and Infant Formula

open access: yesNutrients, 2016
Mothers’ own milk is the best source of nutrition for nearly all infants. Beyond somatic growth, breast milk as a biologic fluid has a variety of other benefits, including modulation of postnatal intestinal function, immune ontogeny, and brain ...

The Ryu–Takayanagi Formula from Quantum Error Correction [PDF]

open access: yesCommunications in Mathematical Physics, 2016
I argue that a version of the quantum-corrected Ryu–Takayanagi formula holds in any quantum error-correcting code. I present this result as a series of theorems of increasing generality, with the final statement expressed in the language of operator ...

High Extinction Ratio Magneto-Optical Fiber Modulator Based on Nanoparticle Magnetic Fluids

open access: yesIEEE Photonics Journal, 2012
A novel magneto-optical fiber modulator with a high extinction ratio (ER) based on a polarization interference structure is proposed. A magnetic fluid (MF) film and a section of a polarization-maintaining fiber (PMF) are inserted into the structure to ...
