Putting the Core at the Centre The Crisis Response Operation Core (CROC) and the Future of PESCO. Egmont Security Policy Brief No. 119 December 2019 [PDF]
The reader who cannot readily identify the meaning of CROC (Croque Monsieur? Croque Madame?) in the context of European defence can be forgiven. The flurry of activity in the EU’s Common Security and Defence Policy (CSDP) since 2016 has generated a host ...

Perfect Forward Security of SPAKE2
SPAKE2 is a balanced password-authenticated key exchange (PAKE) protocol, proposed by Abdalla and Pointcheval at CTRSA 2005. Due to its simplicity and efficiency, SPAKE2 is one of the balanced PAKE candidates currently under consideration for standardization by the CFRG, together with SPEKE, CPace, and J-PAKE.

Tighter Reductions for Forward-Secure Signature Schemes [PDF]
In this paper, we revisit the security of factoring-based signature schemes built via the Fiat-Shamir transform and show that they can admit tighter reductions to certain decisional complexity assumptions such as the quadratic-residuosity, the high-residuosity, and the φ- hiding assumptions.

This review provides an overview of triboelectric nanogenerator (TENG)–based biomedical applications by classifying studies into electronic and ionic systems across attachable and implantable platforms. It summarizes key material choices, device structures, and working mechanisms that characterize current TENG‐based research, and outlines six future ...

Structural Color Inkjet Printing With Mie‐Resonant Silicon Nanoparticles
Water‐based inks incorporating Mie‐resonant silicon nanoparticles were developed, and their application to structural color inkjet printing was demonstrated. By controlling the nanoparticle size and concentration, coloration covering a wide color gamut was achieved.

Elephant‐skin‐inspired crack networks are programmed in porous diatomaceous earth (DE)‐cement composites using substrate‐guided, stress‐concentration induced fracture. The resulting crack lattices act as capillary conduits that redistribute water, while the porous matrix stores moisture.

Security Analysis of Forward Secure Log Sealing in Journald
This paper presents a security analysis of forward-secure log sealing in the journald logging system, which is installed by default in almost all modern Linux distributions. Forward-secure log sealing is a cryptographic technique used to ensure the integrity of past log entries even in the event of a full system compromise.

The perspective presents an integrated view of neuromorphic technologies, from device physics to real‐time applicability, while highlighting the necessity of full‐stack co‐optimization. By outlining practical hardware‐level strategies to exploit device behavior and mitigate non‐idealities, it shows pathways for building efficient, scalable, and ...

Faith and Responsibility in the Global Village (Chapter 5 of My Place in the World
In many ways, people around the world are becoming one big community. The media are connecting us. So are business, industry, and culture. This chapter explores the character of the global village, suggesting how people of religious faith might point the
