Total-Evidence Dating and the Fossilized Birth–Death Model

, 2020
Molecular clock dating has been widely used to study the evolutionary history of species. Total-evidence dating is an approach where morphological and temporal data from fossils, together with morphological and molecular sequence data from extant species, are analysed jointly to infer dated phylogenetic trees and evolutionary parameters.

The Fossilized Birth Death Process with heterogeneous diversification rates unravels the link between diversification and specialisation to a carnivorous diet in Nimravidae (Carnivoraformes)

open access: yesbioRxiv
Abstract Bayesian phylogenetic inference uses more and more complex diversification models as tree priors to test new macroevolutionary hypotheses. However, those models are usually developed in a neontological framework, despite the increasing number of datasets covering both extant and fossil taxa, as well as the fact that many clades are

Phylogenomics and Fossilized Birth-Death Dating Reveals Gondawanan Origin and Extensive Post-Cretaceous Diversification of Worldwide Cicadidae

open access: yesbioRxiv
The Cretaceous-Paleogene (K-Pg) mass extinction resulted in a massive turnover in biodiversity. The oldest fossils of the globally-distributed insect family Cicadidae date to the Paleocene, suggesting that this family diversified after the K-Pg boundary.
