Coupled Chemical and Mechanical Control of the Pore Size in Carbon Honeycomb Membranes for Water Desalination

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The advancement of 3D carbon nanostructures for next‐generation desalination membranes is hindered by limited control of the pore size to ensure effective salt rejection. Chemical functionalization and mechanical modification are known approaches to address the problem, while the combined effect of the two approaches remains unexplored.

MIL-Derived Hollow Tubulous-Shaped In2O3/ZnIn2S4 Z-Scheme Heterojunction for Efficient Antibacterial Performance via In Situ Composite

open access: yesNanomaterials
In this study, a hollow tubulous-shaped In2O3 derived from MIL (MIL-68 (In)) exhibited an enhanced specific surface area compared to MIL. To further sensitize In2O3, ZnIn2S4 was grown in situ on the derived In2O3.

Characterization and Antimicrobial Activity of Hafnium Nanostructures Fabricated by Physical Vapor Deposition Through a Colloidal Mask

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView.
We generate hafnium nanostructures by first depositing polystyrene particles of varying diameter followed by physical vapour deposition of hafnium thin films. The resultant structure shows a kill‐on‐contact effect against both Gram‐negative Escherichia coli and Gram‐positive Staphylococcus aureus.

Adherence of Carbon Steel Rust on the Corrosion of an Austenitic Stainless Steel Bolt in Marine Atmosphere

open access: yesInternational Journal of Electrochemical Science, 2014
Stainless steel fasteners can fail as a result of stress corrosion cracking (SCC) in coastal atmosphere. In order to have a better understanding of the development of stainless steel fasteners’ SCC in marine atmospheric, the corrosion electrochemistry ...

Effect of homogenisation on milk fouling in a tubular heat exchanger : a thesis presented in partial fulfilment for the requirements for the degree of Master of Food Engineering, Massey University, Palmerston North, New Zealand [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
Fouling of equipment surfaces in milk processing has been a costly problem for many years. In spite of an increasing body of knowledge of the fouling mechanism, the problem is not fully understood yet.

Bioelectrical Interfaces Beyond Excitable Cells: Cancer, Aging, and Gene Expression Modulation

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The investigation of biological conductivity has evolved from its classical foundation based on ionic fluxes underpinning cardiac and neuronal excitability to a multifaceted regulator of cellular physiology. Traditional approaches for probing electrical events in living matter focused largely on action potentials recording.

Engineered Heparinized GQDS/HPEI–Polyamide Membrane for Bilirubin Removal via One Step Anti Coagulation

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView.
A multifunctional heparinized polyamide membrane embedded with graphene quantum dots (GQDs) and hyperbranched polyethyleneimine (HPEI) is engineered for efficient bilirubin removal via a one‐step anticoagulation–adsorption process. The membrane demonstrates enhanced hemocompatibility, prolonged clotting times, and high bilirubin adsorption capacity ...
