Failure Modes and Quantitative Evaluation Methods for Uneven Settlement of Large Storage Tanks

open access: yesShiyou huagong gaodeng xuexiao xuebao
With the development of large-scale storage tanks, structural safety issues such as foundation settlement and structural deformation that affect the operation of large storage tanks have increasingly become the focus of equipment management and inspection

Research on the Effective Control of Ground Settlement during Double-Layered Foundation Pit Dewatering Based on Seepage Control-Recharge Coupling Model

open access: yesAdvances in Civil Engineering, 2022
This study focuses on the settlement of buildings around the foundation pit caused by foundation pit dewatering. Within the study context, a test is conducted on the control of ground settlement during double-layered foundation pit dewatering based on ...

Centrifugal model tests on deformation characteristics of pile-net composite foundation under super-large loads

open access: yesYantu gongcheng xuebao
The CFG pile-net composite foundation is widely used to reinforce soft soil foundation. The geotechnical centrifugal model tests are carried out to study the deformation characteristics of the CFG pile-net composite foundation under super to large loads ...

Settlements of Shallow Foundations on Sand

open access: yesSoils and Foundations, 1984
ABSTRACT The estimation of settlements of foundations on granular soils requires both a mechanical model for the footing on the soil and an appropriate method for evaluating soil parameters. Both aspects are considered. In the usual case the loads are mainly monotonous and remain below the failure load with an adequate margin of safety.

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Surface settlement characteristics of adjacent building groups during excavation

open access: yesYantu gongcheng xuebao
To clarify the surface settlement characteristics induced by pile foundation building groups and to obtain the surface settlement profiles in the areas outside the foundation pit under their influence, this study employs the PLAXIS 3D finite element ...

Simplified method for settlement calculation of rigid pile composite foundation in soft soils

open access: yesYantu gongcheng xuebao, 2017
To find a simple and precise settlement calculation method for rigid pile composite foundation is still an urgent problem which is not solved as yet. For the settlement calculation of rigid pile composite foundation in soft soils by using the existing ...

Diversity and complexity in neural organoids

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Neural organoid research aims to expand genetic diversity on one side and increase tissue complexity on the other. Chimeroids integrate multiple donor genomes within single organoids. Self‐organising multi‐identity organoids, exogenous cell seeding, or enforced assembly of region‐specific organoids contribute to tissue complexity.

Analysis of Settlement of Group Pile Foundation in Linear Viscoelastic Soil

open access: yesAdvances in Civil Engineering, 2023
The settlement of a group pile foundation is the result of elastic-plastic settlement of the pile and rheological settlement of the soil. Unfortunately, most research only considers elasto-plasticity settlement of piles or rheological settlement of soils.

Epigenetic blind spots – the role of DNA methylation dynamics in stem cell‐based models of embryogenesis

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Embryo‐like structures (stembryos) are an innovative tool, but they are hindered by experimental variability and limited developmental potential. DNA methylation is crucial for mammalian development, but its status in stembryo models is poorly characterized.
