Performance of waste foundry sand concrete in sulfate environment
Waste foundry sand is generated by the metal casting industry and has great potential to be used as a construction material. Nearly 70 % of the waste foundry generated is disposed of as a landfill which poses a threat to the surrounding environment.

In this work, the feasibility of partially and totally replacing natural sand with used foundry sand in self-compacting concrete was studied. Natural sand was replaced in 50% and 100% vol. by used foundry sand.

In order to investigate loss of work from rheumatic diseases in the metal trades, employees in 10 foundries were questioned. Of 325 foundry workers aged 35 to 74 years, who had worked for at least 10 years on the foundry floor, 299 were examined clinically and radiologically for evidence of rheumatic disease.
