The role of histone modifications in transcription regulation upon DNA damage

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This review discusses the critical role of histone modifications in regulating gene expression during the DNA damage response (DDR). By modulating chromatin structure and recruiting repair factors, these post‐translational modifications fine‐tune transcriptional programmes to maintain genomic stability.

Linkages Between Mineral Element Composition of Soils and Sediments With Hyporheic Zone Dissolved Organic Matter Chemistry Across the Contiguous United States

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters
The hyporheic zone is a hotspot for biogeochemical cycling where interactions with mineral metals preserve the release and biodegradation of organic matter (OM).

Simplifying microfluidic separation devices towards field-detection of blood parasites [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
With our sights set on a simple and inexpensive diagnostics device based on extraction and enrichment of parasites from human blood, we present a device design that relies on a combination of multiple different deterministic lateral displacement arrays ...

Substrate specificity of Burkholderia pseudomallei multidrug transporters is influenced by the hydrophilic patch in the substrate‐binding pocket

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Multidrug transporters BpeB and BpeF from the Gram‐negative pathogen Burkholderia pseudomallei have a hydrophilic patch in their substrate‐binding pocket. Drug susceptibility tests and growth curve analyses using an Escherichia coli recombinant expression system revealed that the hydrophilic patches of BpeB and BpeF are involved in the substrate ...

Chemical abundances in Galactic planetary nebulae with Spitzer spectra [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
We present new low-resolution (R~800) optical spectra of 22 Galactic PNe with Spitzer spectra. These data are combined with recent optical spectroscopic data available in the literature to construct representative samples of compact (and presumably young)

Function‐driven design of a surrogate interleukin‐2 receptor ligand

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Interleukin (IL)‐2 signaling can be achieved and precisely fine‐tuned through the affinity, distance, and orientation of the heterodimeric receptors with their ligands. We designed a biased IL‐2 surrogate ligand that selectively promotes effector T and natural killer cell activation and differentiation. Interleukin (IL) receptors play a pivotal role in

Discovering chemistry to creep rupture equations in Alloy 617 with machine learning

open access: yesScientific Reports
This study seeks to discover a mathematical relationship between stress, temperature, properties, chemistry, and creep-rupture of a superalloy. This discovery will be achieved by leveraging human-supervised machine learning (ML).

Impact of stress distribution between delta ferrite and austenite on the strain-induced martensite in AISI 304 steel

open access: yesJournal of Materials Research and Technology
This study reports the influence of the fraction of δ ferrite in the austenitic stainless steel AISI 304 on strain hardening during a uniaxial tensile test. Two different steels of altered chemistry and the corresponding fractions of δ ferrite (0.5 and 7.
