Liquid Crystal Elastomer‐Based Haptic Pixel Arrays at Your Fingertips for Advanced Human–Machine Interfaces

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
We mechanically program liquid crystal elastomer coatings as a stimuli‐responsive and digitally addressable platform for refreshable tactile displays; we validate the perceptual performance of our dynamic device matches conventional static tactile media.

Using the fractional order calculus in the combination of the MIT and Lyapunov stability method

open access: yes, 2020
The main idea of the current paper consists in introducing the fractional order calculus in a control system. To control the system, an adaptive control technique with reference model is used. The fractional order models for the plant and reference model

Spatial Control of Light‐Responsive Proteins and Optogenetics Within Hydrogels via Volumetric Bioprinting

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Spatiotemporal control over cell behavior within bioprinted constructs remains a key challenge in biofabrication. Volumetric bioprinting using multi‐wavelength light sources permits to activate light‐sensitive intracellular proteins as well as optogenetic gene and protein expression circuits in bioprinted cells, in addition to enabling fast printing of

New 3D Fractional-Order Zernike Moments for Shape Analysis

open access: yes
This paper introduces the new three-dimensional (3D) fractional-order Zernike moments obtained by extending the radial component of classical Zernike polynomials to admit fractional exponents.

S‐Nitrosothiols as Thiol‐Protecting Groups for Controlled Thiol‐Maleimide Crosslinking of Homogeneous Soft Hydrogels

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Rapid thiol‐maleimide addition frequently outpaces mixing, resulting in heterogeneous hydrogels. S‐nitrosothiols act as thiol‐protecting groups, allowing uniform mixing with maleimide‐functionalized polymers before gelation. Sodium thiosulfate or sodium ascorbate then regenerates thiols on demand, triggering controlled thiol‐maleimide crosslinking ...

Deterministic Field‐Free Switching of Perpendicular Magnetization by Bulk Mirror Symmetry Broken Bi1−xSbx (012) with High Spin Hall Conductivity

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Crystal orientation and domain engineering enable bulk mirror symmetry breaking in Bi1−xSbx, resulting in ultralow current‐induced switching of perpendicular magnetization without an external field. By exploiting single‐domain Bi1−xSbx (012), the authors demonstrate an out‐of‐plane spin Hall conductivity of ∼1.12×105ℏ2eΩ−1m−1$ \sim \!1.12 \ensuremath ...

Side‐Chain‐Induced Interlayer Slipping in Metalloporphyrin COFs Enables Microenvironment and Spin‐State Regulation for Photocatalytic CO2 Reduction

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Alkoxy chain length drives a continuous transition from eclipsed AA to a serrated, slipped AA* configuration over Co‐porphyrin COFs. A moderate slip both contracts the pore channel to enrich CO2 and suppress hydrogen evolution, and enhances collective high‐spin of Co sites, which delivers a record CO production rate with high selectivity.

Iterative Selection of DNA Nanostructures for Cellular Uptake

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
DNA nanostructures are promising cell targeting delivery vehicles for therapeutics, but the targeting behavior is not fully understood. In this study, libraries of DNA nanostructures that can be amplified and sequenced are combined with cellular uptake as a selection pressure to iteratively refine DNA structures taken up in cells to better understand ...

Descriptors to Dynamics: A Materials and Device Perspective on in‐Materio Physical Reservoir Computing for Neuromorphic Edge Intelligence

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Intrinsic material dynamics are harnessed as computational resources for neuromorphic in‐materio physical reservoir computing. Defects, ionic motion, interfaces, percolation, geometry, and biasing shape transient states that provide fading memory, nonlinearity, and high‐dimensional projection for simple readout. A descriptor‐to‐dynamics framework links

Exploring vibrational resonance in biophysical systems with fractional-order damping [PDF]

open access: yes
Vibrational Resonance (VR), which is characterised by the enhancement of the maximum response of a weakly driven system’s output signal induced by a high-frequency (HF) periodic signal, was numerically examined in a bi-harmonically driven dimensionless ...
