Comparison between fractional excretion of sodium and fractional excretion of urea in differentiating prerenal from renal azotemia in circulatory shock

open access: yesEgyptian Journal of Critical Care Medicine, 2013
Background: Fractional excretion of sodium (FENa) is used to differentiate renal from prerenal azotemia. However, many drugs and medical conditions affect the sodium (Na+) handling in the kidney. But the fractional excretion of urea (FEurea) is dependent

Insulin enhances renal glucose excretion: relation to insulin sensitivity and sodium-glucose cotransport

open access: yesBMJ Open Diabetes Research & Care, 2020
Introduction Insulin regulates renal glucose production and utilization; both these fluxes are increased in type 2 diabetes (T2D). Whether insulin also controls urinary glucose excretion is not known. Methods We applied the pancreatic clamp technique in ...

Fractional excretion of sodium after renal transplantation

open access: yesKidney International, 1979
After renal transplantation low urinary sodium concentration (UNa) has been used to diagnose acute rejection (AR), for the early phase of AR is often associated with reduced renal perfusion. Early postoperative graft failure without low UNa favors the diagnosis of ischemic tubular damage (ATN).

Fractional excretion of electrolytes and paradoxical aciduria in dairy cows with left displaced abomasum

open access: yesPesquisa Veterinária Brasileira
: The fractional excretion of electrolytes is used to assess renal function and interpret electrolyte and acid-base imbalances. Left displaced abomasum is a common disorder in dairy cows, which causes hypokalemic, hypochloremic metabolic alkalosis. There

Hyponatremia with Persistent Elevated Urinary Fractional Uric Acid Excretion: Evidence for Proximal Tubular Injury?

open access: yesKidney & Blood Pressure Research, 2016
Background/Aims: Hyponatremia associated with high urinary fractional excretion of uric acid which persists after serum sodium is corrected is the cardinal feature of salt losing nephropathy (SLN). We hypothesize that low grade proximal tubular injury is

Renal Fractional Excretion of Sodium in Relation to Arterial Blood Gas and Spirometric Parameters in Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Cardio-Thoracic Medicine, 2014
Introduction: Arterial gas derangement could change urinary sodium excretion in Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) patients. There are very few and conflicting data in regards to the measurement of fractional excretion of sodium in COPD patients.

Fibroblast growth factor 23 is associated with fractional excretion of sodium in patients with chronic kidney disease [PDF]

open access: yesNephrology Dialysis Transplantation, 2019
Background. Recent studies suggest that the phosphaturic hormone fibroblast growth factor 23 (FGF23) is involved in regulation of renal sodium excretion and blood pressure.

Effect of tobramycin on fractional sodium excretion in neonates.

open access: yesPediatric pharmacology (New York, N.Y.), 1984
Fractional sodium excretion (FENa) was measured in 25 neonates during and after treatment with tobramycin. Mean birthweight of infants was 1.83 kg and mean gestational age was 34.3 weeks. Tobramycin therapy was initiated within 48 hours of birth and levels were maintained within the therapeutic range.

Interpretation of the Fractional Excretion of Sodium in the Absence of Acute Kidney Injury: A Cross-Sectional Study [PDF]

open access: yesNephron, 2017
<b><i>Background/Aims:</i></b> The fractional excretion of sodium (FeNa) may be helpful in establishing the cause of acute renal failure. This study was performed to determine the influence of the glomerular filtration rate (GFR), sodium intake, and tubular function on FeNa in children without renal failure.

Significance of the fractional excretion of urea in the differential diagnosis of acute renal failure

open access: yesKidney International, 2002
Significance of the fractional excretion of urea in the differential diagnosis of acute renal failure.BackgroundFractional excretion of sodium (FENa) has been used in the diagnosis of acute renal failure (ARF) to distinguish between the two main causes ...
