Using the Mellin transform approach, it is shown that, in contrast with integer-order derivatives, the fractional-order derivative of a periodic function cannot be a function with the same period.

This paper continues the subject of symmetry breaking of fractional-order maps, previously addressed by one of the authors. Several known planar classes of curves of integer order are considered and transformed into their fractional order. The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

Cell wall target fragment discovery using a low‐cost, minimal fragment library
LoCoFrag100 is a fragment library made up of 100 different compounds. Similarity between the fragments is minimized and 10 different fragments are mixed into a single cocktail, which is soaked to protein crystals. These crystals are analysed by X‐ray crystallography, revealing the binding modes of the bound fragment ligands.

Fractional-Order Inductor: Design, Simulation, and Implementation
Fractional calculus has tremendous potential in modeling the evolution of complex systems including those with memory. Indeed, fractional-order models are more accurate in approximating non-locally distributed dynamics with short- or long-term memory ...

Hybrid Systems and Control With Fractional Dynamics (I): Modeling and Analysis
No mixed research of hybrid and fractional-order systems into a cohesive and multifaceted whole can be found in the literature. This paper focuses on such a synergistic approach of the theories of both branches, which is believed to give additional ...

Fractional variational calculus of variable order
We study the fundamental problem of the calculus of variations with variable order fractional operators. Fractional integrals are considered in the sense of Riemann-Liouville while derivatives are of Caputo type.Comment: Submitted 26-Sept-2011; accepted ...

We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Time-fractional diffusion of distributed order
The partial differential equation of Gaussian diffusion is generalized by using the time-fractional derivative of distributed order between 0 and 1, in both the Riemann-Liouville (R-L) and the Caputo (C) sense.

Stability of Fractional Order Systems [PDF]
The theory and applications of fractional calculus (FC) had a considerable progress during the last years. Dynamical systems and control are one of the most active areas, and several authors focused on the stability of fractional order systems. Nevertheless, due to the multitude of efforts in a short period of time, contributions are scattered along ...
