Design of fractional order 2-DOF PI controller for real-time control of heat flow experiment
This paper presents a two degree of freedom fractional order PI controller for temperature control of a real-time Heat Flow Experiment (HFE). The introduction of two degrees of freedom and fractional calculus to PI controller enhances its flexibility at ...

Rice–Mele model with topological solitons in an optical lattice
Attractive ultracold fermions trapped in a one-dimensional periodically shaken optical lattice are considered. For an appropriate resonant shaking, a dimerized structure emerges for which the system realizes paradigmatic physics described by the Rice ...

Carbon-based phytoplankton size classes retrieved via ocean color estimates of the particle size distribution [PDF]
Owing to their important roles in biogeochemical cycles, phytoplankton functional types (PFTs) have been the aim of an increasing number of ocean color algorithms.

Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.

Spatial and vertical extent of nucleation events in the Midwestern USA: insights from the Nucleation In ForesTs (NIFTy) experiment [PDF]
Measurements of aerosol particle physical and chemical properties, gas phase concentrations and meteorological parameters were made along a transect in southern Indiana during the Nucleation In ForesTs (NIFTy) experiment conducted in May 2008.

Plasma membranes contain dynamic nanoscale domains that organize lipids and receptors. Because viruses operate at similar scales, this architecture shapes early infection steps, including attachment, receptor engagement, and entry. Using influenza A virus and HIV‐1 as examples, we highlight how receptor nanoclusters, multivalent glycan interactions ...

Fractional variational problems depending on indefinite integrals [PDF]
We obtain necessary optimality conditions for variational problems with a Lagrangian depending on a Caputo fractional derivative, a fractional and an indefinite integral.
