AbstractA fractographical study of dental cast gypsum was made in order to correlate the mechanical properties with the microstructure. Wet specimens fractured under tensile stress showed intercrystalline fracture and the tensile strength depended on the porosity present.

Abstract The fractal characteristics of a series of fractured AISI 4340 steel specimens were studied experimentally by means of vertical sections through the fracture surface. Extensive fractal data have been generated for both the fracture surfaces and their profiles.

Abstract This article provides an overview of fractography as it applies to metal weldments and presents examples of various fracture surface morphologies to demonstrate how fractographic analysis can be used to determine the cause of weld failures.
