Fractography of self-glazed zirconia with improved reliability

open access: yes, 2017
The fractography of a new grade of zirconia ceramics, known as self-glazed zirconia, was investigated. The as-sintered intact top surface was made with superior smoothness that mimicked the optical appearances of the natural teeth enamel.

Forensic Fractography of Bone: A New Approach to Skeletal Trauma Analysis

open access: yes, 2018
Fractography is the study of fracture surface morphology, and it can be used to assess a material’s mechanical properties as well as to determine the underlying mechanisms leading to material failure.

Investigating reverse butterfly fractures: An experimental approach and application of fractography.

Forensic Science International, 2021
Butterfly fractures are expected to form with the transverse portion on the tension side and the wedge portion on the compression side of a bent bone, however wedges have also been observed in the reverse orientation and are reported to be frequent in ...

A brief history of fractography

Journal of Failure Analysis and Prevention, 2006
Fracture surfaces have, no doubt, been studied throughout the history of mankind, probably starting with observations on stone-age tools. In the 16th to 18th centuries, the macroscopic appearance of fracture surfaces was used to assess the quality of metallic materials, with studies by Reaumur in 1722 being the most notable.

Prediction of fatigue crack propagation and fractography of rail steel

Theoretical and applied fracture mechanics (Print), 2019
The aim of the present research is to determine the initiation and propagation of cracks and its geometric specifications. Metallurgical factors, especially the non-metallic inclusions have a significant impact on the fatigue life of railways.

Fractography off cast gypsum

Australian Dental Journal, 1982
AbstractA fractographical study of dental cast gypsum was made in order to correlate the mechanical properties with the microstructure. Wet specimens fractured under tensile stress showed intercrystalline fracture and the tensile strength depended on the porosity present.

Formability and fractography of AA5754/polyethylene/AA5754 sandwich composites

Mechanics based design of structures and machines, 2020
Metal-polymer composites are one of the considered materials as a potential representative substitute for metals that have superior properties compared to monometallic materials.

Relationship between fractography, fractal analysis and crack branching

, 2020
A critical part of failure analysis is to understand the fracture process from initiation through crack propagation. Crack propagation in brittle materials can produce crack branching patterns that are fractal in nature, i.e., the crack branching ...
