Iliac Crest Bone Block Autograft Transfer for Ballistic Posterior Glenoid Fracture: A Case Report [PDF]

open access: yes
Case: A 25-year-old male presented with a ballistic fracture of the right glenoid resulting in > 30% loss of the posterior glenoid articular surface and acute posterior glenohumeral instability that was treated with open reduction internal fixation with ...

Multistable Physical Neural Networks

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, EarlyView.
This article presents the integration of mechanical bistability into physical neural networks (PNNs), enabling memory retention and bridging computation with physical action. By mapping the equilibrium states of bistable, liquid‐filled chambers, it explores stability and introduces global and local training algorithms.

Autogenous self‐healing of concrete: Experimental design and test methodsA review

open access: yesEngineering Reports, Volume 5, Issue 1, January 2023., 2023
Concrete exhibits an intrinsic ability to heal cracks, defined as “autogenous self‐healing.” However, despite code restrictions, autogenous self‐healing of concrete shows limited effectiveness in practice. This indicates the need for further research to provide engineers with reliable design rules.

Skin‐Covered Biohybrid Robotic Finger with Bilayered Permeable Subcutaneous Support for Internal Hydration Supplement

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, EarlyView.
A bilayered permeable subcutaneous support system is developed to address the hydration challenge in skin‐covered biohybrid robots. Consisting of a perforated skeletal layer and a sponge‐like polyvinyl alcohol hydrogel, the system enables fluid flow, nutrient diffusion, and mechanical support.

Fracturing Behavior and Size Effect of Discontinuous Fiber Composite Structures with Different Platelet Sizes [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2018
This study investigates the mode I intra-laminar fracture and size effect in Discontinuous Fiber Composites (DFCs). Towards this goal, the results of fracture tests on geometrically-scaled Single Edge Notch Tension (SENT) specimens are presented and critically discussed for three platelet sizes. The results clearly show a decrease in nominal strength

Cloud‐Based Control System with Sensing and Actuating Textile‐Based IoT Gloves for Telerehabilitation Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, EarlyView.
Using cloud computing technology, a telerehabilitation application allows patients to perform exercises remotely. Sensor data from a textile‐based IoT glove is processed in the cloud and transmitted as exercise commands to an actuating T‐IoT glove worn by patients.

Seismic fragility models for base‐isolated unreinforced masonry buildings with fibre‐reinforced elastomeric isolators

open access: yesEarthquake Engineering &Structural Dynamics, Volume 52, Issue 2, Page 308-334, February 2023., 2023
Abstract Unreinforced masonry (URM) buildings are highly vulnerable to seismic ground motion, calling for quantitative risk assessment and mitigation programmes in different earthquake‐prone countries to reduce future losses. Despite the effectiveness of base isolation technology in reducing seismic response of buildings, the high costs of conventional

Delayed migration of K-wire into popliteal fossa used for tension band wiring of patellar fracture

open access: yesChinese Journal of Traumatology, 2013
【Abstract】Breakage of K-wires and stainless steel wires which are used for fracture fixation is not uncommon, but migration is rare. We report a case of migration of bro-ken K-wire used for patella tension band wiring to the popliteal fossa.

Bio-mechanical effects of femoral neck system versus cannulated screws on treating young patients with Pauwels type III femoral neck fractures: a finite element analysis

open access: yesBMC Musculoskeletal Disorders
Introduction As a novel internal fixation for femoral neck fractures, the femoral neck system has some advantages for young Pauwels type III femoral neck fractures without clear biomechanical effects and mechanisms. Thus, the objection of the study is to
