Internal fixation of instability pelvic fracture

open access: yesКлиническая практика, 2018
Over the past 3 years, an analysis of surgical treatment of 48 patients with unstable fractures of pelvic bones has been performed. The study group included patients with type B3, C2, and C3 fractures according to AO classification. The average follow-up

Associations of Rheumatoid Arthritis Disease Activity With Frailty Over Five Years of Follow‐up

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, EarlyView.
Objective To evaluate whether rheumatoid arthritis (RA) disease activity is associated with frailty both in cross‐section and longitudinally. Methods Participants within the Veterans Affairs Rheumatoid Arthritis (VARA) registry enrolled from 2003 to 2022 were included.

Assessment of tibial fracture healing with dual energy X-ray absorptiometry: influence of metallic implants at the fracture site [PDF]

open access: yes, 1995
Evaluation of the progress of fracture healing traditionally combines manual fracture manipulation with a visual radiographic assessment. This approach can lead to satisfactory healing, but trouble can ensue when the type of fixation compromises the ...

Characterization of Defect Distribution in an Additively Manufactured AlSi10Mg as a Function of Processing Parameters and Correlations with Extreme Value Statistics

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Predicting extreme defects in additive manufacturing remains a key challenge limiting its structural reliability. This study proposes a statistical framework that integrates Extreme Value Theory with advanced process indicators to explore defect–process relationships and improve the estimation of critical defect sizes. The approach provides a basis for

Karl Popper and the Mechanisms of Hydrogen Embrittlement

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Representation of the beginning of loss of ductility rather than embrittlement. Small concentrations of hydrogen in a diffusible form within iron are well‐established to harm the mechanical integrity of steels. There are theories that attempt to explain the pernicious role of hydrogen.

NON-UNIONS AFTER FIXATION OF HUMERAL FRACTURES USING HACKETHAL'S BUNDLE NAILING TECHNIQUE [PDF]

open access: yesActa Ortopédica Brasileira, 2016
Objective: The aim of the study was to identify factors contributing to the development of non-union after fixation of diaphyseal humeral fractures using Hackethal's intramedullary nailing technique.

Nondestructive Testing of Welded Composite Metal Foams

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
X‐ray computed tomography (CT) is used to evaluate welded steel–steel composite metal foam (CMF) joints of two density classes. It reports variation in postweld spatial void distribution and correlates it to weld‐induced changes, mechanical performance, and failure within welded CMF panels.

Influence of Geometric Design on Mechanical Performance of Auxetic Metastructure

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Strategic geometric reinforcement transforms auxetic performance. This study evaluates 3D‐printed arrowhead metastructures, revealing that a modified design with local ring reinforcement suppresses premature failure to achieve superior energy absorption and structural efficiency.

Reduction and fixation of comminuted fractures of the midface by using a Hoffman-type external fixator: A case report

open access: yesJPRAS Open, 2022
Internal fixation using plates remains the gold standard for facial fracture fixation. External wound fixators are rarely used. In the present study, we successfully treated multiple comminuted facial fractures with midfacial depressions by using a ...

Experimental Characterization of Mycelium‐Based Composites Under Multiple Loading Conditions

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study examines the mechanical response of mycelium‐based composites under compression, shear, and tension using mechanical testing and imaging methods. The comparison between unpressed and hot‐pressed specimens shows that hot pressing is associated with higher compression and shear stiffnesses.
