Effect of Laser Heat Treatment on the Microstructure and Properties of Alloy 800H

open access: yesMetals, 2019
The effects of laser heat treatment on the microstructure and properties of alloy 800H were investigated. The fracture morphology, elemental changes, and phase composition of the specimens were characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy ...

Tensile and Shear Mechanical Characteristics of Longmaxi Shale Laminae Dependent on the Mineral Composition and Morphology

open access: yesEnergies, 2020
Laminae are well developed in shale and generally influence fracture propagation during hydraulic fracturing. Hence, comprehensively understanding the tension and shear behaviors of shale laminae is crucial.

Fully three-dimensional propagation model of horizontal borehole hydraulic fractures in strata under the effect of bedding planes

open access: yesEnergy Exploration & Exploitation, 2018
The bedding plane effect will occur when hydraulic fractures propagate to the bedding plane in sedimentary strata, resulting in the “≠,” “工,” or “/” shaped fracture morphology.

Utilization of a Porous Cu Interlayer for the Enhancement of Pb-Free Sn-3.0Ag-0.5Cu Solder Joint

open access: yesMetals, 2016
The joining of lead-free Sn-3.0Ag-0.5Cu (SAC305) solder alloy to metal substrate with the addition of a porous Cu interlayer was investigated. Two types of porous Cu interlayers, namely 15 ppi—pore per inch (P15) and 25 ppi (P25) were sandwiched in ...

Rubber-toughened epoxy loaded with carbon nanotubes: structure-property relationships [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
The paper reports on the preparation, structure and properties of ternary thermosetting blends, based on DGEBA epoxy, cured with 3,3′-DDS and modified by the addition of CTBN reactive liquid rubber and/or 0.3wt% of commercial multi- walled carbon ...

Characterization of Defect Distribution in an Additively Manufactured AlSi10Mg as a Function of Processing Parameters and Correlations with Extreme Value Statistics

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Predicting extreme defects in additive manufacturing remains a key challenge limiting its structural reliability. This study proposes a statistical framework that integrates Extreme Value Theory with advanced process indicators to explore defect–process relationships and improve the estimation of critical defect sizes. The approach provides a basis for

Laser Powder Bed Fusion of Alumina: Effects of Scanning Strategies on External and Internal Defects

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study investigates how scanning strategies affect pure alumina in laser powder bed fusion. Linear 45° scanning yields uniform surfaces but high porosity, while the island‐concentric strategy provides higher density with through‐holes favorable for infiltration. Findings highlight pathways toward optimizing defect‐free alumina parts.

Fracture mechanical properties of shale and macro-meso-micro multi-scale fracture surface characteristics [PDF]

open access: yes
Data availability: Data will be made available on request. The presence of bedding planes imparts pronounced anisotropy to the mechanical behavior of shale, fundamentally influencing its response to external stress. This anisotropic behavior is critical

Low‐Cost, Large‐Scale Nanoporous Metals by Mechanical Alloying, Oxide Reduction, and Dealloying of Powders

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Powder metal processing provides scalable advantages in nanoporous (np) metal development. Mechanical alloying is used to produce unique precursors for hybrid nanopore formation by oxide reduction and dealloying. As demonstrated in np Ag, this approach improves process efficiency while promoting smaller ligaments and larger pores, both of which are ...
