Single- versus two-stage revision surgery in the case of fracture-related infection: a systematic review. [PDF]

open access: yesJ Bone Jt Infect
Background: This systematic review aimed to evaluate the current evidence regarding the clinical outcome of single- and two-stage revision procedures for long-bone fracture-related infection (FRI).

Alternating Shear Force of Respiration Regulates Cell Interactions of Fibroblasts and Macrophages to Promote Soft Tissue Integration of Chest Wall Polyetheretherketone Implants

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Given that PEEK chest wall implants induce shear force at the soft tissue‐implant interface due to respiratory motion in the early in vivo post‐implantation stage. We confirmed that this mechanical stimulus triggers the PIEZO1/ITGB1/YAP1 signalling axis in L929 and the STAT6/p‐STAT6 pathway in RAW264.7, which in turn mediates adhesion and migration of ...

How Does the Time from Intraoperative Culture Harvest to Incubation Impact Culture Positivity in Orthopaedic Surgeries? A Case–Control Study

open access: yesAntibiotics
Background: Orthopaedic infections require accurate microbiological diagnosis for effective treatment. This study aimed to evaluate the impact of an accelerated protocol for culture harvesting and incubation on culture positivity rates in orthopaedic ...

Gentamicin-Coated Tibia Nail in Fractures and Nonunion to Reduce Fracture-Related Infections: A Systematic Review

open access: yesMolecules, 2020
The incidence of a fracture-related infection (FRI) can reach 30% of open tibia fractures (OTF). The use of antibiotic-coated implants is one of the newest strategies to reduce the risk of infection in orthopedic surgery.

Dual‐Responsive Hydrogels Integrate Bioelectrical Stimulation and Piezo‐Photocatalysis for Regenerative Treatment of Infected Wounds

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A wireless, dual‐responsive hydrogel (PVA/(PVDF‐TrFE)/BiOClBr@PDA) is developed to promote efficient regeneration of infected wounds by integrating piezoelectric stimulation with piezo‐photocatalytic pathways. Under simultaneous light and ultrasonic stimulation, the hydrogel generates therapeutic electrical cues and reactive oxygen species, disrupting ...

Application and Single‐Cell Regulation Mechanism of Engineered EVs Combined With 4D‐Printed Hydrogel for Infected Burn Repair

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
4D bioprinted hydrogel loaded with FGF2‐modified extracellular vesicles (4D@F‐EVs) targets dermal fibroblasts and elevates local wound FGF2 levels via sustained release of F‐EVs. It activates PI3K‐Akt signaling, restores critical KGF+ fibroblast–KGFR+ keratinocyte crosstalk, enhances robust angiogenesis and collagen deposition to efficiently repair ...

Targeting β2‐Adrenergic Receptor Stability With Lycorine Reveals a Host‐Directed Pathway for Antiviral Defense Against Poxviruses

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Chronic stress drives autophagy‐mediated β2‐AR degradation, impairing antiviral immunity and promoting poxvirus lethality. Lycorine directly stabilizes β2‐AR to restore host defense, suppress excessive inflammation and improve survival. ABSTRACT Psychological stress is a pervasive yet poorly understood modulator of infectious disease outcomes. Here, we

ACSL4‐Dependent Lysosomal Lipid Peroxidation Links WTAP‐Mediated m6A Modification to Intervertebral Disc Degeneration

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
IL‐1β upregulates the protein level of WTAP, which promotes the m6A modification of ACSL4 mRNA in an IGF2BP2‐dependent manner, thereby enhancing its stability. The increased ACSL4 drives lipid peroxidation, leading to lysosomal membrane permeabilization (LMP) and impaired mitophagy, which collectively accelerate intervertebral disc degeneration (IVDD).
