Brittle Fracture Resistance Characteristics of Weather-Resistant 14KhGNDTs Steel
Russian Metallurgy (Metally), 2020The effect of carbon, zirconium, and vanadium content on the characteristics of brittle fracture resistance of weather-resistant 14XGNDC steel is investigated. The correlation of the propagation of a viscous crack with the volume fraction of perlite is considered.

Size effect on fracture resistance and fracture energy of concrete
Materials and Structures, 2003A recent asymptotic approach dealing with the size effect on the fracture properties of a large plate is further developed to consider the influence of both the front and back free surfaces of small sized specimens. The new extension is applied to experimental results found in the literature, and good agreements have been found between the predictions ...

Resistance to fracture of endodontically treated roots
Oral Surgery, Oral Medicine, Oral Pathology, 1992The root canals of 48 single-canal canine teeth were prepared by four different methods. The coronal lingual wall and root canal space were lowered to 2 mm below the buccal wall of the roots. The prepared root was placed into acrylic resin so that 12 mm of buccal root was exposed. A slowly increasing force was applied at the junction of the buccal wall

Improving the Fracture Resistance of Dental Ceramic
Journal of Dental Research, 1977A time-temperature sequence for optimally strengthening dental ceramic by ion exchange was investigated. Stress relaxation occurs at higher temperatures and/or longer times. Improved strengths are obtained in a reasonable period of time that could be used for clinical application.

1. The brittle fracture mechanism was considered taking into consideration the results of earlier conducted works [29, 35, 46]. 2. To determine the brittle strength of iron alloys the equation $$\sigma _{br} \cong 20 000\sqrt {\frac{r}{l},} $$ where r is the radius at the crack tip (most probable 0.01 ...

Evaluation of fracture resistance of ceramics: Edge fracture tests
Ceramics International, 2007Advanced oxide and nonoxide ceramics were tested by edge flaking with different indenters. Flaking toughness values obtained with the Rockwell indenter were shown to be practically proportional to fracture toughness values measured by the single edge V-notched beam (SEVNB) method.

Fracture Resistance of Human Amnion
ASME 2007 Summer Bioengineering Conference, 2007While normal delivery requires disruption of the placental membranes (the “breaking of waters”), in one third of premature births delivery results from with mechanical rupture of the placental membranes prior to full-term gestation [1]. The biomechanical investigation of membrane rupture has thus been a subject of recent study [2–5].

Abstract This article briefly describes the historical development of fracture resistance testing of polymers and reviews several test methods developed for determining the fracture toughness of polymeric materials. The discussion covers J-integral testing, the methods for determining linear elastic fracture toughness, testing of thin ...

Testing of Fracture Resistance of Materials
MRS Proceedings, 1991AbstractBoth energy and load required to fracture the material are important quantities and they are not necessarily related to each other as suggested by the fracture mechanics of brittle materials. For example, the difference of the failure behavior between the semi-brittle ABS polymer and the ductile Al 6061-TO can be well characterized by a pre ...

Fracture resistance of notched specimens
Engineering Fracture Mechanics, 1981Abstract This paper gives a theoretical approach to the general problem of the static fracture resistance in the presence of stress concentrations. First of all, an approaching calculation model is proposed for elastic and plastic stress in the reduced section of a circumferentially notched cylindrical bar.
