Fracture Resistance of Structural Alloys
1996Abstract Fracture mechanics is a multidisciplinary engineering topic that has foundations in both mechanics and materials science. This article summarizes the microstructural aspect of fracture resistance in structural materials. It provides a discussion on basic fracture principles and schematically illustrates the mechanism of crack ...

Fracture Resistance in Line Pipe
Journal of Engineering for Industry, 1965The program of research on line pipe under the sponsorship of the A.G.A. Pipeline Research Committee is a comprehensive effort to investigate the important properties of pipe used in gas transmission. Several different phases are involved in this project, ranging from fundamental laboratory studies to fracture-behavior experiments on large-diameter ...

Resistance of Hardmetals to Fracture
Powder Metallurgy, 1998Abstract Strength of WC and TiC base hardmetals and their durability in metalforming (blanking) operations have been investigated. It has been shown that transverse rupture strength R TZ, critical stress intensity factor K Ic, and ultimate plastic strain ep as individual properties do not enable exact estimation of the resistance of hardmetals to ...

Fracture Resistance of Human Amnion
ASME 2007 Summer Bioengineering Conference, 2007While normal delivery requires disruption of the placental membranes (the “breaking of waters”), in one third of premature births delivery results from with mechanical rupture of the placental membranes prior to full-term gestation [1]. The biomechanical investigation of membrane rupture has thus been a subject of recent study [2–5].

Fracture Resistance of Railroad Wheels
1974The effects of manufacturing method, chemical composition, heat treatment, temperature, and loading rate on the plane strain fracture toughness KIC of railroad wheels have been determined. Carbon content of the wheels is shown to be the principal factor which controls their toughness.

Fracture resistance of materials
1982This section will be concerned with the case of an existing crack; the conditions that led to the initiation of this crack are not of interest for the discussion. For a perfectly brittle extension of this crack by cleavage, the criterion for crack propagation seems fairly easy.

Evaluation of fracture resistance of ceramics: Edge fracture tests
Ceramics International, 2007Advanced oxide and nonoxide ceramics were tested by edge flaking with different indenters. Flaking toughness values obtained with the Rockwell indenter were shown to be practically proportional to fracture toughness values measured by the single edge V-notched beam (SEVNB) method.

Fracture Resistance of Nanocrystalline Ni
Metallurgical and Materials Transactions A, 2007Atomic level simulations are used to study crack propagation mechanisms in nanocrystalline Ni. Digital samples with a mean grain size of 5 and 8 nm containing 125 grains were used. For both grain sizes, the mechanism of crack propagation involves the formation of nanocracks along grain boundaries in the vicinity of the main crack.

Fracture Resistance of Aluminum Alloys
2019Abstract This article discusses the concepts underlying linear elastic fracture mechanics and elastic-plastic fracture mechanics as well as their importance in characterizing the fracture behavior of the high-strength aluminum alloys. It describes the three methods used for analyzing elastic-plastic fracture, namely R-curve concept, J ...
